Hi,

Well its like this. I've liked this girl for 4 yrs now ever since high school. I would hav gotten to kno her better and ask her out if it weren't for the fact that I was going to college and she was still in high school. I didn't want a long distance relationship and a year later she also hooked up with a guy so I didn't want to butt in on their relationship.

However, last year she got into a college near mine and her best friend now goes to my college. I've become good friends with her best friend and consequently got to meet up with the girl and just recently started to chat with her online sometimes.

Today, I heard news from her best friend that the girl had just broken up with her bf a week ago. She said she didnt tell me earlier because she knew how crazy I still was about the girl and didnt want me to do something stupid or rush things just because the girl had just broken up with her bf.

What is the best thing I should do? Should I try to chat with her more often and be there for her? or Should I back off and stay silent for a while and let her come to terms herself with the breakup? or Should I just act normal and chat with her like I still thought she was with her bf? How long should I wait? because I know I dont want to be part of any rebound relationship with her that wont last.

If it would be any extra help, her best friend told me that the breakup wasnt very clean cut so he still calls her sometimes and she still has some lingering feelings and stuff but their long distance thing isnt really working out.

Thanks everyone for your time and patience reading this whole thing.

Don't do anything different for now. It will be up to her to tell you about the break up. But keep having her friend give you information because you don't want some other guy moving in on her before you get a chance.

Some women start dating others almost immediately while others take a long time to get to that point. So if you hear nothing at all after two or three weeks, ask her to have lunch with you one day...but continue to act as if she has a boyfriend. I'm sure she would accept a lunch invitation and at that time disclose her breakup. You would then get to know her state of mind and whether or not she was ready to start dating. She may or she may not.

At least if you have lunch with her you can let her know that whenever she feels ready to date again, you'd like to be at the front of the line.
