You better hurry up before it is too late...

Recommended Posts

So, I was out to dinner with some friends of mine the other night. My friend had brought his buddy from out of town, who had just gotten engaged and he asked how old I was. I told him I was 31 and he replied that I was in my prime and better got moving on marriage before it was too late!

I laughed it off, but I was steaming inside. Seriously, wtf?

I just got out of a 5 year relationship a year ago and rebounded with someone for 6 months. I don't need someone to take care of me--thank you. I think I will take my time.

Ladies?

This kind of stuff is very irritating after a while. I'm not in my 30s yet and I find myself in similar situations.

There are some annoying people that I know who feel the need to remind me that I'm unmarried...gasp...b/c you know, that is the holy grail of feminine achievement.

I tell them that I'd much rather focus on school and my future aspirations.

It irritates me when people (women do this more than men I find) judge in this way. I remember this one girl I used to go to high school with... I saw her one summer somewhere (I was working at this place and she came in). Anyway, she proceeded to flip out her cell phone, coochy coo with her husband and then tell me how fabulous her life was. I was like "yeah that's great." She more or less rolled her eyes at me when I told her I was still in school...she asked me "still partying it up eh?". I was like WTF - I was never a partier...stop trying to cut me down biatch. Of course I smiled and said nothing.

But whatever, girls like her are insecure about their own lives and thus go around being a royal pain to anyone that'll listen...

What? 31 is the deadline? I didn't get the memo! ****. I better act quick, only a few more months to go. Then it's off to the convent for me.

travel? you can't seriously believe that travelling and writing could ever be as fullfilling as carrying out your true biological vocation: motherhood.

I remember when I was turned 28 everyone was asking me when was I going to get married and settle down. I loved my single life and just hadn't thought about marriage and told them so. Then they asked "DON'T YOU WANT KIDS????" Well when I said no to that question everyone looked at me like I had horns coming out the side of my head.

I say enjoy your single life and live it to the fullest because when you do marry you don't won't to feel as if you've missed something.

I think that person said that statement to you because he assumes you want children. You know that thing about "the clock ticking", etc.:rolleyes:

Good god take your time! If you've never been married or had kids, it sure as hell isn't the be all and end all of life! Sure, I loved my XW and my daughter is the greatest, but this is the first time I've actually felt like I was amongst the LIVING since we got married. I didn't even notice it until recently, either. I doubt many people will be saying that to me now, though. Been there, done that...

Mmmm, I get that all the time.

I was a nanny.

I have no maternal instincts left.

As for marriage?

They still have the death penalty in this state and I don't trust myself.

Yeah, I get this baloney all the time from family, even some of my smug married friends.

I'm 29 and have been with my bf for 4+ years. We still don't know if we are gonna get married, but I feel like it is for us to decide, not everyone else!

They act like I am gonna be a spinster or something just because I am going back to school and have some goals BESIDES poppin out some kids.

 I only just made it on time!!!:p

Seriously though. It's sad people's perception of life. I would have waited until I met the right person no matter how long it took. There's no age limit on it.

Just like there's nothing that says you can do it all - marriage, school and kids. Or none if you prefer.

Live your life the way you want, and forget those who feel they need to impress their timescales and ideals upon you. :)

I'm only 20, but marriage is no where in my near future (and I really don't want children). I'm single, in school, work, have a great time with my friends... I don't see the need (or a reason) to commit yet.

I would be upset if soneone said that to me. I've tried to get out of the "woman" stigma. Its so sad that other women can't appreciate that. I don't go around complaining about they're lifestyle choice!!

And men, if they can't appreciate an independant women who apprecaites her self, that's their problem.

It pis$es me off that people can be so ignorant. Oh well. Screw them. I'm happy!
