My sister noticed a lump on my eyelid and says I have a sty (sp?). She has it too but her's is way more obvious.

She told me that it can be removed by a simple surgical procedure. Basically they numb your eye, turn your eyelid inside out and cut away the crap underneath the eyelid. *shudders*

I am thinking of going to the docs just to be on the safe side but has anyone else had this before?

check with the pharmacist (chemist?) and see what he or she recommends before paying for a doctor's visit. Pretty much, if you don't mash them, they go away on their own, according to this site www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/001009.htm … but I know they sell some kind of stye meds here in the states

and your sister is full of cow-poo, BTW. They don't do surgery anymore unless there's no other option, period. Silly silly poo-filled girl!

I have one right now in my right eye. The doctor gave me an antibiotic cream that I apply before bed, It's gotten smaller and is slowly going away.

I think that you should go see the doctor. Just to confirm that it is a sty, and not something more serious. Hopefully you'll get an antibiotic cream as well instead of surgury .

Is it painful at all? I heard sty's were supposed to be painful, which caused me to worry because there is no pain accompanied with mine. The doctor confirmed that it was just a sty though.

I get styes in my eye when i am really run down and tired.

DO NOT have surgery to fix them. Any decent doctor won;t offer it to you anyway.

chloramphenicol ointment will fix it, and as it is a bacterial infection, don't rub your eye and then rub the other one, and please sterilise all your make up brushes, and throw away any mascara or eyeliner that you have used on both eyes recently as that can spread the infection to the other eye..

You should be fine soon... x

Yeah, I thought surgury was a bit extreme

Sometimes, if you're using an eye-cream that's too rich for the skin around your eyes, it can cause these little bumps. If you're only using a facial moisturizer, instead of an eye-cream, this could be the cause of it.
