PandorasBox
Does mental illnesss run in families, as far as being hereditary? I know of a lady I work with, love her to pieces, shes a great lady. However, she was telling me she was so afraid of becoming alot like some members of her family who have problems with things. She has two sisters, one who has schiophrenia, the other is bi polar. She has a cousin who has multiple personality disorder. She has this great fear of developing an illness such as these. She says she already has a problem with some anxiety, and a little paranoia. Nothing major but she knows she has somewhat of problem with those things. I think she's afraid it might get worse. So could she be more likely to have a illness because she has family memebers who have these things?

Author PandorasBox
Yes it does. I'm wondering, if she is afraid of it happening to her, if that is part of her paranoia (illness) already? Her mother, who is a very sweet lady,is pretty much over weight, so my friend will exercise her self to death, because she has mentioned she doesn't want to look like that when she's older. 7 days a week for like 2-3 hours at a time. Not to be rude, but I don't see where anything has helped, and she has been doing this for years. I really like her, but she is also a constant complainer. I feel bad for her though. Art_Critic
Yes it does. Certain kinds are certainly..Then there are also kinds of mental illness that can be brought on by other factors.. many other factors I guess it really matters what type of mental illness we are talking about.. On a side note.. my Dad use to say " Insanity is hereditary.. you get it from your kids"..
