When my contact dermatitis flares up, I find that the over the counter stuff just isn't strong enough to stop the itching and heal it.

I have a prescription creme that knocks it down overnight.

You doctor should be able to diagnose this--

Good luck.

could you pm me the name of that cream... I'll ask my doctor for a prescription. She didn't want to diagnose it.. she referred me to a dermatologist... I guess she had no idea what it was... She's a very young doctor.. just out of university. I don't think she's even 30 yet.

Thanks! :)

I don't know if this will be of any help but I'll pitch in my two cents! Both my father and grandfather had skin cancer.

My father also had eczema! So do I but only when I am under severe stress does it break out especially around my hairline. The ointment that kills it on the spot is in my country called "Celestoderm with garamycin!"

As for my father's cancer, it was on the lips. He was operated on and lived a good thirty years after! Yes, it did leave a bit of a scar but baely noticeable. My father had on the rim of his ears. He had chemotherapy (back in the seventies) and helived to be 97!!!

Honestly though, you need to get a clear diagnosis! Can you not resort to a private doctor?

Can that cream be bought over the counter or do i need a prescription?

I am not afraid about the cancer thing.. I know that type of skin cancer can be cured quickly. It's just the 'look' of it that is 'yucky'.... good thing it's in my neck...under my hair... eewwwww

Thanks.

Mustang Sally

Maybe it's something less ominous....like seborrheic dermatitis? Is it near the hair line?

Of course, you won't know until you get it checked out.

I wish you good luck getting an expedited Derm appointment.

Sorry that you're going through this Lizzie. I'm actually shocked that they're gonna take in you 6 months? Push your Dr to get you in quicker, 6 months is crazy! People that have skin cancer (that I know of, atleast in Ontario) are taken in quickly as patients so treatment can be taken right away.

A few years ago, I had a basal cell carcinoma on my chest that was removed in a simple office procedure. If I had not acted, the cancer would have worsened, and threatened my life.

Get this basil cell removed today. Otherwise, deal with a life threatening melanoma tomorrow.

Lizzie,

It looks like a patch of skin has been burnt.. it's a very dark red and thick and has a rubber feel with 'bumpy lines' in it.. weird...

This is nasty.

Don't get caught up in your wishful thinking that it's nothing and start putting creams and stuff.

Go to the medical insurance building and demand to see a dermatologist "now". Or just chase some dermatologist down the halls and show her that and ask her to help you. If she sees something is bad she'll move things for you.

As I told you, my father had skin cancer, and one of the first thing they asked him was if it itched. Because it does. And it bleeds too, that was the other question.

He had some lymph nodes removed that had cancer that had spread and was caught up there, but if they took too long, I'd have spread to other organs because it does.

Don't waste any time,

Ariadne

I called my doctor this morning... She's in the hospital...

I guess doctors get sick too... LOL

I then called the dermatologist's office... there is nothing they can do.. I have to call regularly to see if they have a cancellation...

They just don't care... I'm not the only one in that situation... a lot of people (sicker than I am) are on waiting lists... it's insane here... I'm in Quebec... but I have a doctor in Ontario too.. I might give him a call next week.. if my doctor says she can't do much to hurry my appointment.

Our health system sucks!

Oh,

I'd go there and cry, make a scene in front of everybody... please! please... I'm dying :,'-O. Walk right in (stop me if you can) doctor! what is this? what is it?!?

Hey, this is serious stuff.

But then, I'm pretty crazy.

I've heard stories of the system you have there.

Never mind the creams. Like Ariadne said, chase one if you have to. Pronto! Please?

  • 2 weeks later...

Lizzie, go to the hospital and get this done. I made a derm. appointment today as I have a little skin tag I want removed and I have a mole on my leg that has changed colour slightly and is itchy. My appointment is for Nov 15th. Call your Dr in Ontario and get the appointment booked ASAP.

I have had skin cancer for 12 years and I have never had to wait for more than 2 weeks for an appointment. I know I am not in the same country as you but you should not have to wait 6 months. My primary care doctor did a biopsy and diagnosed me before I saw a dermatologist. So I already knew what I had when I called to get an appointment with a dermatologist, so that might have made some difference but I would never accept a 6 month wait.

Even if it is not cancer, it is itching and interfering in your life. Call your primary care doctor's office and ask for the name of another dermatologist, or talk to people you know who have seen a dermatologist and get a recommendation of who to see that way.

How big is the area on your neck you are talking about?

It is about 2 1/2 in. long by 1 1/2 in. wide I guess... it has spread on the other side (a little bit)... then last Sunday I got some more between my b breasts.. Now I am pretty sure it is eczema due to stress (from work)... I can swear it is due to stress... I worked last Sunday (overtime) and I got sooo mad (I had an argument with my boss) then that same day, I got it on my breasts... then I had another 'fight' with my boss (not quite a fight) again this morning... I just hope I won't get more...

I am seeing my doctor in about 4 weeks and I will tell her I can't wait... I need a good 'prescription' cream. I am going nuts...

The pharmacist was good though.. He gave me a good cream but not good enough obviously... and he told me to put a lot of moisturizing cream. He said it was definitely NOT cancer.
