Krytie TV
This probably comes off as a very silly question, but seeing as how I'm no fitness guru, I'll throw it out there. Just wondering if there's anything I should take into consideration when excercising 2x/day. Any health concerns or things I should watch for. By exercise, I mean a non-impact training and light lifting (I'm no powerlifter). Any recommended supplements that would actually be needed?
JosieMcCoy
I figure farmers are working physically ALL DAY LONG! So whats the big deal! Cheers!
sb129
Depends on what you are trying to achieve- are you trying to get bigger or more toned? A protein supplement for before or after you work out is good for getting muscle definition and tone quite quickly. Most sports shops or health food shops can give you advice on which one is best for you based on your exercise aims. I think the only thing I would say is make sure you are eating a good diet as well, and if are aren't trying to lose weight, make sure your calorie intake is sufficient to give you enough energy to be able to work out twice a day. and load up that ipod with some funky tunes!!! Author Krytie TV
Depends on what you are trying to achieve- are you trying to get bigger or more toned? Thanks. Of course, a good dose of Chili Peppers or 311 is paramount! I'm focusing on weight loss and toning. I'm not really looking to gain any mass per se. I guess now that I think about it, it's not really any different than spending one long period working out, so I guess it's no big deal.
jtalia
I used to workout 5 days a week and never took any supplements, etc. I didn't do a lot of heavy lifting though. If you want weight loss, try reducing your caloric intake. Don't go below 1200 cal/day though. Just make sure you drink plenty of water. 2 days/week should cause you any problems. Of course, unless you already have health problems??
Darkzen
Depends, don't do the same muscle groups twice in the same day, for more than a week or two. Muscles need a rest period. Otherwise, knock yourself out. Cardio doesn't count as a muscle group either, this advice only pertains to lifting. Sometimes it's advisable to work out the same groups twice in a day for a short period to shock the muscles into further growth... but you're not trying to get big, so you shouldn't be concerned. If you want to get some size, PM me and I'll send you a copy of my "off-season college football lifting program"... I've done it three times in my life, from being completely out of shape and have trained two people with it also, the results were between 30-40lbs of mass added in 2-3 months of following it. I just started it again last week after like 6 months out of the gym. One of the people I trained was 40 and everyone that knew him, thought he was taking steroids (because of how fast the results came). It's very intense and has a higher than normal risk of injury, but as with anything... the faster the results the more risk. I also try to avoid things that will cause nasty injuries if your form isn't perfect (i.e. deadlifts).
Author Krytie TV
Thanks Darkzen. Powerlifting is not really my thing. I like my frame, I just want it more... well, ya know
sb129
Wonderboy and I started working out together a few months ago. I have always been a regular gym goer, but I was in a bit of a rut and wasn't seeing the results I wanted, and he wanted to tone up. Guess who got results faster, despite not going as regularly??? Yup. Him. He is naturally lean anyway, but after a month of going 2-3 times a WEEK, doing sets of weights that were not too heavy (high repetition, low weight tones, high weight low rep builds) and having protein shakes before and after the gym, he looked damn FINE..... and still does despite slacking off a bit. I am still working on it. My clothes fit better, and I am definitely more toned, but I think I will have to accept that this (US sz 8 on top, 10 on the bottom) is me unless I seriously diet which I don't want to do, I am healthy enough for me. sb129
Well if you put it that way! WB is happy too, so thats all that matters. I think most women have a degree of body dissatisfaction, but TBH, the older I get, the less I care - I do it for me, not for anyone else. I enjoy exercising anyway, but I can't do it without my ipod. I am currently enjoying a 90s revival- rage against the machine surely does make you run a little faster! i don't think I could drag myself to the gym twice a day though! Do you get those RPM/ Spin classes in the US (I'm sure you do?) 45mins of torture, but man is it a good workout. I think you should try the extra protein- you can buy ones that are tailored to your needs.. WB definitely got more cut muscles pretty quickly by following that, and he didn't change his diet in any other way. As londoners we walk everywhere too, which i think helps keep you in shape. Basically, a muscle has two parts. The muscle itself and the individual muscle fibers that comprise the muscle. Lifting heavy causes the muscles to tear (soreness), the resulting scar tissue that happens when it heals, makes the muscle get bigger. Lifting light causes the individual muscle fibers to get larger (making the muscle tighter and solid). Lifting light is for endurance and lifting heavy is for power, either method builds overall strength though. The beauty of adding mass is two fold. A) it increases your metabolism and B) it can be maintained fairly easily... you just have to exercise the muscles to keep the mass, not constantly push yourself (like when you're adding the mass). Not to mention that the overall increase in power and strength, is mighty helpful for preventing injury in everyday life.

Darkzen
cute:bunny: Thanks. I'm still cute, but in the process of getting back to where I used to be. Got complacent for a good 6 years and put on some weight... my ex really made me feel like poop and I got depressed. I've lost a good 20lbs since I broke up with her and still have like 30lbs to go. Injuries the past couple of years haven't helped either. Rolled my ankle last summer (category 3 sprain), hurt my shoulder benching last winter, jumper's knee and sprained ACL. I guess that I shouldn't have played semi-pro football the last two years, I'm not a young man anymore. I should be back to my old ways in a month or two, I'm normally a work-out fanatic. Been doing Ju-jitsu for a month and started lifting again last week (although, I've been lifting the past 2-3 years, I'd lose focus and stop here and there). Here, have some fun... some pictures for your enjoyment. I don't really have any recent photos, once I got depressed I didn't want to have my picture taken much. http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y193/Darkzen2484/Renfaire98.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y193/Darkzen2484/Spring2000.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y193/Darkzen2484/Spring1998.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y193/Darkzen2484/NYRenFaire1995.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y193/Darkzen2484/IDpic2003.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y193/Darkzen2484/budapest.jpg
