whichwayisup
Just wondering. I know I don't, the flashes I've been getting is all part of the migraine I've had for 2 days now...Problem though is, I googled detached retina and the symptoms I have, more or less match what I read. Googlin' is bad sometimes! Anyway, just out of curiousity, has anyone ever experienced a detachment?

Googlin' is bad sometimes! Anyway, just out of curiousity, has anyone ever experienced a detachment? I did once had those flashing zigzag... I call my doctor and he saw me right away.. because he feared a retina detachment... but it was nothing... but he found something else... I forgot what it was.. I have it in my wallet... in case I get in an accident... and they look at my eyes... and I just thought that I might have thrown that little paper away... This is very dangerous and has to be dealt with quite fast.
Author whichwayisup
Shi.t Lizzie! Find that piece of paper and tell me what it is you have! Silly woman!
norajane
Well, jeez, call a doctor in the morning! Why are you googling symptoms for 2 days when you could have had your questions answered by a doctor??
Author whichwayisup
If I still have it tomorrow I am seeing the Dr. I've had this before and had it checked out, was told it's just a side effect of the migraine. But, better to be safe than sorry...
Saxis
Yep, I had a torn and detached retina in my right eye. Usually occurs from some kind of eye trauma (getting hit in the eye or face hard). I believe mine was from getting hit right in the corner of my eye with a baseball bat when I was a kid. It was probably torn at that time, but still attached. After rubbing my eyes one night about 10 years later, my vision in that eye just went to crap. The bad thing was, I didn't have the surgery until 1 year later. Supposedly they did a very good job repairing the retina, but my vision will never be back to normal. I had my surgery 2 years ago now. It sucks very much....
Bobby NoBrains
I had an impact distortion of my vision where in my right eye I could only see through the lower half of the eye. It lasted for about 2-3 seconds after I hit my head against a door pretty hard just on my eye bone. I had myself inspected but the doc said it was not a detachment and the impact possibly caused "trauma" to the optic nerve which caused it. As of now it's attached afaik. Migraine is known to cause flashes of light and similar symptoms such as distortion of vision, wavy vision, etc.. Detachment will cause you total loss of vision, like a flap has fallen over a small part of your eye (or a large part), it's different from migraine vision problems. It's like you can make out that something is wrong inside your eye. From what you're describing, you don't have a retina detachment, just a severe migraine. Just my two bits .. Author whichwayisup
I can see perfectly fine out of that eye and I've only had one flash today. I still have the yucky feeling of the migraine, minus the pain. My eye isn't blurry, doesn't hurt or have any discharge. BUT, I will make an appointment this week just to get it checked. Thanks everyone.
krazy4ah
I just had my yearly eye exam last Thursday. He sent me to a specialist yesterday because he 'thought' I might of had a tear in my retina. Boy was I nervous. After my excruciating exam, good news rolled my way. No tear in the retina. He said my retina is splitting (sounds worse than a tear), but is completely normal and age related. I was good to go. I have floaters occasionally, but I guess that's pretty normal too. Good luck to you.
Author whichwayisup
Did you get the flashes of light too? Sounds like what I have - The retina lifts up and therefore the gel goes into the eye hense all the black floaters. I know that exam, it IS excruciating! I got really grossed out and couldn't sit still, had afew moments of bad anxiety too.
amaysngrace
I didn't ever have a detached retina but one time my daughter as a toddler tried to climb up on the couch and when she did she took out a chunk of my whiteness. It was literally underneath her fingernail. My fault, I know, for not trimming her fingernails often enough. Anyway, to my point...you know when you get hit in the nose your eyes water? Well it goes the same in reverse. When you hurt your eye your nose runs. And that's just a fun little fact! WWIU...we are not doctors and therefore aren't qualified to give out medical advice. amaysngrace
That is so disturbingly cool Yeah at the doctors it was even cooler. They gave me these drops to put into my eye and it was flourescent and it made my whiteness light up purple under a black light or something and I could see the hole. They said if it was in the color part of my eye I'd have problems. But the whiteness grows back. But the eye heals quickly. So does the mouth. No scabbing system. More fun facts. I must be sick, but that sounds like fun... well only if I was there to see yours, not if it happened to me Eeew imagine if you did have a scab on our eyeball, everytime you moved your eye it would be so gross.
