Yosef
This is my personal rant on how bad soda is for you, in reply to "No More Soda" thread, but I found it was quite long and thought I should start a thread for it: Soda: Strong and Overall Debilitating Acid. This popular soft drink indirectly leads to serious medical conditions later in life. At this moment, you’re probably thinking, “So what?” or you’re just not thinking about it at all. Soda tastes great, how can it take on its antithesis when it enters your body? Sodas, especially Cola products, are extremely acidic. Acidity attracts disease, according to the medical profession. Why do schools, corner marts, and restaurants give out such a dangerous drink? Why does the public demand such a harmful drink? Soda is an official catalyst in leading to osteoporosis for women. The Phosphoric Acid found inside all soda requires Calcium to break down and become usable by the body. Where is Calcium most prominent? Your bones. The acid attacks your bones, depleting them of calcium. Girls who drink carbonated beverages on a regular basis have a three-times more likely chance of bone fracture than those who don’t. Now, for girls who actually play sports, their chances become five-times that of normal. Diabetes is also brought on by excess drinking of soda. It causes the liver to shoot out excess insulin into the blood stream, and doing this too often can deplete insulin production and therefore lead to Diabetes. Diabetes is a very debilitating disease as everybody already knows. It can lead to organ failure and death, and it could all be because of these simple soft drinks. Soda is like a drug. It’s addicting and damaging, and available to everyone. Kids and adults of all ages drink soda, without knowing the possible damage it can cause to them, and the inevitable damage it will cause after years of use. Kids at the age of 3 drink soda, and it wouldn’t be surprising if kids younger than that drink it. Caffeine, a drug in many sodas available, develops a person’s dependency on it, damaging the brain. Diet sodas, such as Diet Coke or Diet Pepsi, contain more caffeine than their non-diet counterparts. This indirectly seems to make Diet sodas more harmful in the long run. So after all what people have been through, what keeps these cold soft-drinks on the shelves? How could they have possible passed FDA standards or even be limited to the age-group which they can be sold? After all, the younger you are when you become dependent on soda, the more long-lasting damage it has on your body. Soda shouldn’t be limited in production, no, that’s unrealistic. People need to reduce the amount of Soda they drink. It shouldn’t be an every-day, every-meal refreshment. You’re better off just quitting on soda altogether, but that can’t be expected. It should instead be limited to only once per every other day or twice a week. Schools are beginning to take many of these drinks from students’ reach. They’ve begun a ban on soda machines from school premises, well, probably with exception of the Staff and Teacher Lounges. It’s unfortunate because, no matter what age you are, soda affects you all the same. Soda tastes so good, but it does such harm. Pretend you watched the news and heard about a pedestrian with brown eyes and black hair, and he drives a green Mercedes who stole from five people and is on the lookout. Well, when he parks in your driveway and knocks on your door, asking for a short stay. He’s a very nice and good-looking man with great manners. You let the criminal in and you leave the house. Is that how you choose to treat your own property? Yourself?
