So it's my mothers 40th next week. Our family is going out for Lunch on Sunday to celebrate, I made the reservation so it's all sorted... the only thing is that now we have the iddue of the present. My sis and I are getting her something together, but for the life of us we can't think of anything. We know she likes Gold Jewellery, a day spa is a nice idea before someone suggests it, but she isn't that type of person (not to mention I don't have $500 lying around).

The only thing she wanted was a professional photo done of us and our brother. Well he kinda lives in another state so that's not really possible. We never got to celebrate our dad's 40th, he went off to another country with his new family, but we want to get our mum something special.

So c'mon trusty LS suggestions please :bunny:

I got my ma a Nintendo DS and she loves it! I never would have thought her the type, but she loves the Soduko and card games!

Super high quality chocolate works. Find a food she likes and get the best of the best of it!

Finally, make a picture out of dried macaroni and glue!!!

Cheers!

Is there no way more of your family could all chip in together and get a flight for your brother?

If she likes jewelry, a mothers ring or necklace ... I think if it has an ability to add birthstones off the children of their off-spring. This way each stone has a story.

But I'm not a jewelry person. I'm also one who's practical.

Conversations may discover something. Ask what she played when she was little; what songs were her favorite when she was a teen. Does she read? Books she has thought of buying;

Take her out on a surprise day. Dinner and movie(theater or play). Something out of the norm that you've never done. Something she would never expect.

I think that a the typical "Special Mother" jewelry is to original and safe.

If I were you, I would go with something different, and out of the ordinary.

Find out what she enjoys doing?

Is she or was she ever into art?

Maybe buying her a piece of really neat art would be a great gift!

If you didn't get to celebrate your fathers B-day, then maybe you could get them a dinner for two at a nice restaurant.

A really good idea just came to mind.

What was your mothers and fathers first date like?

Ask you father what they did, and where they went.

Try to relive that for them.

For example, if they went to dinner and a movie, then reserve dinner, and purchase tickets for them to go see a movie.

This would also be making up for your fathers B-Day as well.

Well actually my parents are divorced and he preferred to spend his bithday with his wife rather then his family (they live in another state) Fair enough, if it wasn't every single event and holiday that he prefers to be away from his family.

So I spoke to my grandmother and my grandparents, my sis and I have ended up getting her a voucher for a day spa. She gets the whole treatment, spa, body wrap, massage, facial, manicure, pedicure and eyebrow wax. She is quite stressed form work and deserves it we think :)

On Sunday we are going out to a nice restaurant in Darling Harbour, should be really nice to spend some time with my family for once, something which is very strange for me to say
