bigheartkindsoul
always been slightly up and down. Lost about 10lbs in the weeks after break up, now have put that on and about another 4lbs which I am gutted about. What doesn't help is that my favourite form of exercise, is well SEX so when broke up with the ex that took that form of exercise outta the equasion. I do go to the gym, swimming, running, weights, walking, about to start fencing lessons and other stuff too. But I because alot of the time I cannot be bothered to cook for one I end up eating rubbish instead of meals like bag of crisps biscuits chocolate just grab and go alot of the time (not all), no fun standing there cooking a full blown dinner for yourself night after night. Sometimes I make large batches of stuff so try to eat one normal meal a day. I wanna lose some weight but I donno how, actually I do, I need to cut down on the crap food and exercise more I guess. Suppose its a bit of comfort eating and also winter comfort eating cause its getting cold here now.
Author bigheartkindsoul
Well have signed up to Weightwatchers online, no point moaning about it and doing nothing about it is there. So we begin today.
shadowofman
Actually, you probably don't need much exercise. As long as you are walking or on your feet for a significant porton of the day, all you need to do is cut the sugar. That includes the grains and potatoes, and eat more lean protein. Not even everyday, just more often than not. Actually I find that eating great for 5 days and then eating crappy for 1, and then going back to eating great makes me drop pounds in bursts. Tons of Lean meat Fresh fruits Tons of fresh Veggies
littlekitty
It's easy to eat healthily for one without having to cook a full blown meal. Ready cooked chicken breast and ready made salad. Ready by the time you've taken the packaging off. Same goes for Tuna and salad. Or grill a chicken breast and steam some veg. You can get ready to steam in the Micro veg packs these days. 15 mins and it's done. Min washing up too!! I have a shed load of healthy and fairly quick meal plans if you need any!! Oh and drop the carbs in the evening. I put on the most weight when I eat carbs after 5pm.

littlekitty
I like the idea of the 80/20 rule, have 5 good days and one rubbish day. Sounds like a great idea. Both me and hubby do this too! It's never a good idea to cut out everything you like. It makes it all the much harder to stick to the diet and you're more likely to cheat!
shadowofman
You can even do pretty good if you just have time to eat out. The quick and cheap habachi places are good for a high protein meals, just skip all that rice filler. Fajietas. Just kind of hard to get your good fats from all that chicken and cow. Sushi always rocks.
Author bigheartkindsoul
I am gonna do this, did it before can do it again. Got all my old WW info out and will just adjust some current foods I eat to once a week or so instead of most days. Now what do I do with the Lemon Puff Biscuits, Breakaways, and all other crap I bought the other day - hide it, for emergency use only! Yep its gonna get done now
PoshPrincess
I like the idea of the 80/20 rule, have 5 good days and one rubbish day. Sounds like a great idea. Hmmm, in my experience this doesn't work if you're wanting to lose weight but then again it all depends on metablosim, I suppose. I can literally starve myself all week, then eat one takeaway at the weekend and STILL not lose weight! Apparently eating too little is not good either as your body gets used to you not eating so much or something and you can't lose weight that way either! All very confusing. Best of luck with Weight Watchers BHKS! I have a few friends who have done really well with that one. I lost lots of weight on the Rosemary Conley diet, which mainly consists of lowering your fat intake. Also, there's an exercise class with that one too although it doesn't sound like you need that as you seem to have a pretty good exercise regime in place already. I constantly battle with my weight and poor body image so I know where you're coming from. It sounds like you just need to cut out some of the junk and you will be well away! uniqueone
Do they carry low calorie frozen foods in your part of the world? Those are easy to just zap in the microwave.
shadowofman
Yeah, eating one meal a day is no good at all. There is nothing wrong with a low calorie diet, just make sure that you are eating a little very often throughout the day. If you get the tummy rumbles, you need to eat, or you will convert all the nutrients that have not yet been broken down into energy and you will store them as fat. Your body doesn't know when the next meal is coming, so it stores it away for harder times. I suggest that you eat some good salads with some good salmon or something for breakfast and lunch. And throughout the day, snack on tree nuts or lean jerky. Maybe a small amount every hour you are awake. These proteins will keep your metabolism running like a furnace all day long, burning fat just to break down the protein (protein takes more energy to breakdown than it gives you in return). If you ever get dizzy, like if you workout while eating like this, then eat some fruit fast. Lean Meat (no dairy) Fresh Fruits And Fresh Veggies (no legumes, no tubers)

There is nothing wrong with a low calorie diet, just make sure that you are eating a little very often throughout the day. Your body doesn't know when the next meal is coming, so it stores it away for harder times. Actually that's not true on a daily basis.....over longer term, then yes. During the course of one day, your body won't think it's starving. If you fast continally, however, then it will. If you get the tummy rumbles, you need to eat, or you will convert all the nutrients that have not yet been broken down into energy and you will store them as fat. This doesn't make sense. You're saying you'd convert them into energy (which means burning them off), but then you're also saying they'll be stored as fat. They can't do both at the same time. Eating when your stomach rumbles is important because it means that your blood sugar is low and when you're blood sugar is low it can lead to all sorts of problems.....including bingeing later on. If you ever get dizzy, like if you workout while eating like this, then eat some fruit fast. Lean Meat (no dairy) Fresh Fruits And Fresh Veggies (no legumes, no tubers) And potatoes and beans are bad BECAUSE.........????
shadowofman
And potatoes and beans are bad BECAUSE.........???? They are too high on the glycemic index. These sugars break down fast. They "shock" the pancreas into overproducing insulin. Increased insulin can result in an increased chance for obesity. Not all beans are high on the GI, but most have tons of toxins in them that have to be cooked out in order for them to be edible at all. Like cyanide in Lima Beans. Ultimately, green beans are better than lentels for instance. This philosophy is based on a pre-argricultural diet. Basically, if humans evolved to be eating it, it's unnessessary to cook or process it in any way. Not that you shouldn't cook or create a cuisine, but it shouldn't have to be cooked or milled whatever. Tubers and beans were only available to eat after fire had been invented (100,000 yrs ago). Dairy and grains, only 10,000 yrs ago. 100,000 years is not a very long time, evolutionarily speaking. Refined sugars have only been available for the past one hundred years. Point,...... We can live on a lot of things. We can make inedable foods edible. We can increase the flavor of foods to make them insanely good and addictive. Humans are very smart monkeys. But we are not smart enough connect all the dots. It doesn't help that food industries fund bogus research into the "wholesomeness" of milk and such.
shadowofman
Actually that's not true on a daily basis.....over longer term, then yes. During the course of one day, your body won't think it's starving. If you fast continally, however, then it will. Maybe not over one day, but my point is that you should feed the metabolism. Feeding it small amounts stretched over longer periods will help burn fat reserves. You can still cut calories if you wish, either way. This doesn't make sense. You're saying you'd convert them into energy (which means burning them off), but then you're also saying they'll be stored as fat. They can't do both at the same time. What I meant is that all food is broken down into energy. Then the body has to decide whether to store this energy as fat, or to use it to function this muscle or that whatever. If your blood sugar is low, and you are getting the tummy rumbles, you body will decide to store for even harder times. You have to understand that the natural state of man is in nature. Nature is a fickle provider. This method of store vs. use is actually the best method of survival under "normal" natural conditions. Eating when your stomach rumbles is important because it means that your blood sugar is low and when you're blood sugar is low it can lead to all sorts of problems.....including bingeing later on. Do you mean bingeing reflexively without provoke? I've never heard of this. Bingeing, like throwing up right?
chadia028
hello to everyone! im new to this forum and i'm hoping i could get some advice on dieting. lately, im getting a bit fustrated about how body looks. my stomach is always showing even if my shirts are quite lose. i was wondering if any could give any advice on how to lose the stomach that i have? like specific exercises or changing my diet? thanks
spookie
I don't know. I can't do anything in moderation. For me, dieting and exercise are either all-out or nothing. As soon as I touch that one cookie, I eat the whole box. Right now I'm trying to lose weight too. I finally decided that I WILL have the body I want. There's a website forum thing that's actually been helping me immensely (cause a lot of hte people on it have really inspiring stories, complete with many photos chronicling their transformations). If you're interested: http://forum.bodybuilding.com/forumdisplay.php?f=14 Don't be put off by the "bodybuilding" sound of it. The female section, which I linked you to, is really more about weight loss/ healthy eating. There is a TON of info there that will help you get started. It's helped me every time I've decided to start.
Trialbyfire
If you're making healthy meals, make extra portions you can put into the freezer. This way, on a busy night, you can make a quick salad and have a healthy meal, instead of junk. Moderation is key. If you find yourself craving ice cream, have a scoop of sorbet. What you want to do, is to break your body of the bad habit of poor diet. After you create good habits, your body will stop craving the crap and might even begin to reject it, in that thinking about a bag of chips, won't be of much interest to you. On the other hand, a small bag of chips won't kill you, if you have one a month.
lindya
Suppose its a bit of comfort eating and also winter comfort eating cause its getting cold here now. It's absolutely freezing where I am, but eating stodge doesn't really do much to keep the cold out. Like you say, it's just a psychologically comforting thing to do. Stock up on low calorie soups obviously watching the salt content. I like couscous and roast winter vegetables for the comfort food feeling. Just as TBF says, it's about getting into the habit of healthier eating. After a time, that's what your body will crave. As for keeping out the cold - no better place to help you do that than the gym. 20 minutes on a treadmill and 30 in a sauna makes you forget what it's like to be cold...and the warmed up feeling lasts for a good while after your session. Saunas are reputed to be pretty good calorie burners too - though I don't know how true that is. Possibly someone with a bit more health knowledge can comment.
randuff
Instead of eating 3 large meals a day or even worse 1 or 2 large meals I eat 5 to 6 smaller meals throughout the day. Decent breakfast then early morning snack then lunch then afternoon snack then dinner. I try not to eat after 8pm as well. I think the body realizes it has to burn off the food more often when you eat smaller portions all day long as opposed to large meals. I started doing this when I started working out (after the ex split up with me) and I went from 172 down to 147. Then started training and eating right and I went back up to 161 (while losing 2% body fat) Obviously the key is to eat smaller portions of good foods throughout the day and not fatty greasy foods Damn I sure to miss those fatty foods though
