I only want to lose about 5-7lbs and this I have only put on in the last 6wks from holiday & some comfort eating.

What I need help with is......

Nice ideas for comfort food thats more healthy but still feels naughty! I like my snacky things. I have joined Weight Watchers online so this will help as done this sucessfully before.

How can I step things up at the gym to LOSE WEIGHT? I alternate between

Swimming 20-40lengths (I give my swimming so welly)

Treadmill Walking fast, Walking fast uphill, Running for about 2km or 20mins

Also bike for 5-10mins or 2-3km

Also stepper for 5-10mins or 20-40flights of stairs

Weights, press ups, sit ups, toning exercises

New Fencing lessons just started

If I do gym with treadmill, bike, stepper and weights etc I always finish with a swim of between 10-20lengths to stretch out after.

So am exercising between 2-4times a week.

What exercises will make me lose weight the quickest? Any I can add? Any I need to drop?

My opinion that more exercise is not what you need. Weight training will help build muscle that will help burn fat, but it seems you are already doing enough exercise.

Eat lean meat

Fresh fruits (very moderately if you are trying to loose weight)

Fresh veggies

Smaller, more frequent meals if possible.

I like mexican flavors, so I use a tone of peppers, onions, garlic, serloin steaks (lean and cheap), skinless chicken. Fish and root veggies. Greens for the vitamins and minerals.

No dairy, no legumes, no tubers, no refined sugar.

After a heavy workout is a different story. It would be a good idea to get fast carbs in this case.

5-7 lbs is nothing. You could do this in a week if you eat this way.

I suggest eating 5 super healthy days and eating whatever you want for a day. Then 5 more super healthy. This, in my experience, actually promotes more drastic drops in pounds.

This is a lifestyle change. There are little to no quick fixes. You have to train yourself to eat better (at least a bit better than you currently are) if it's important to you.

I think most people would if they got unbias information about what is healthy and what is psuedo-healthy.

Comfort food that is healthy?

Well...

Take a chicken breast (it's leaner) and sprinkle whatever spices you want (also adding salt and some EVO). Wrap in tin foil and let it bake.

Boil some carrots and beans and add a bit of butter and salt once cooked.

Boil some sweet potato (add some low fat sour cream, salt, and a bit of butter and perhaps some spices).

Healthy but hella good!

The best advice I can give you is to diminish your white flour/sugar intake. White flour and sweets raise your insulin and your appetite.

All excellent suggestions thank you.

The flour thing, yes def as I get bloated easy anyway.

Will try eat healthy for 5days like the sound of that and that recipe Ocean sounds fab I will def try over the weekend. :)

So you think I do enough exercise??

How come doing this has only made me 1) put on weight (I know muscle weighs more than fat)

2) eat more, I exercise and eat twice as much so defeating the object really?

I don't think that biking or stepping for 10 minutes gets you to the point were you start burning fat.

Not eating anything past say 7pm can make a big difference too.

Oh, you do all of it in one go?

Then it should be enough.

You are right. Exercising will only increase your need for fuel. And if the fuel you choose is the wrong type, you will not be doing any good.

I understand that you want "comfort" food, but be careful. Some foods are comforting because they have drugs in them. Carbs are addictive. Try the tripaphan (sp?) in turkey as a substitute.

Carbs that shock your pancreas, cause you to make more insulin, will cause you to make more fat. These carbs are high on the Glycemic Index. These are grains, potatos, peas, and refined sugars. Stick to low GI carbs. Fruits!

Ocean,...as awesome as this will taste, I would suggest substituting a few things. Try turnips and parsnips instead of the sweet potato. They are sweet, but lower GI.

If you are interested in health issues beyond weight control. There are afew more things you can do. Use Omega-3 inriched butter, if you need it at all. Balancing your fats will lower your chances for heart disease. Try to get even amounts of Saturated, Monounsaturalted, and Polyunsaturated (omega3-6-9). This is easier than it sounds. Eat leaner beef and chicken. Eat more raw EVO and canola oil. Eat more fish and nuts and avacados.

Also, try to limit the salt. Most food has salt in it already. If you can't, than eat more potassium to balance the sodium.
