electronics for organizing schedule?

Can anyone recommend an electronic device that I can type in stuff and file info?

I need to have instant access to files and writing info-but a notebook is too cumbersome, and awkward.

I need to organize my schedule and make notes-but electronically.

And i need to be able to carry it with me at all times.

 

Not a tape recorder.

 

Think i-pod-but with information.

 

I know of blackberry hand held devices-but that is for email, faxing, scheduling.

 

I did a google search-WTF? Did no one invent this yet?

 

Please-does anyone know of anthing like this?

 

Think "word perfect"-the program- but as a hand held device....any suggestions to my dilemma?
