redfathom
My H and I came back from a cruise on Tuesday (11-6) and got a text while heading home from my BIL that lives with us that our cat has been missing since Sunday 11-4. As soon as we came home we went on the internet, posted flyers and went to the animal control center. He has a collar and is microchiped so we also called them to let them know he is lost. My husband made the comment to me that this guy living in our complex who is mentally disabled and loves our cat said to him three weeks ago in passing that he was moving out and if our cat was missing he would know where we could find him. Well, it turns out the guy was evicted the same weekend our cat went missing. Is that too much of a coincedience? I called the police but they would not take a report so I took things into my own hands. I called the HOA president and she called the owner (we live in condo complex and he was a renter) and got his full name, the women said he might have gone to stay with his mom. I went on the internet looked him up found a relative who was 80 guessed it was his mom went on a people search website and paid $10 and got an address, okay I know this was very bold of me but I love my cat very much. So that night I went to her condo complex checked the mail boxes and found out the address I found was correct. The next day we went by her place and the guys sister who lived there told us she has not talked to her brother in years we gave her a flier and explained the situation. About three hours later the guy called and left me three nasty messages cursing, calling us names, etc. He was very upset that we accused him of stealing our cat. I guess most people would be but his was extream about it. I am not sure what else to do. The guy was evicted for making theats against the HOA board because he got a violation notice so I don 't want to go around pissing off a psycho but I really want my cat back and it seems likely that he took him. My H wants to go by the guys moms place agian to find out where he is living, like she would really tell us. We have had our cat for five years and nothing like this has happened. Everyone in our complex knows and loves our cat, he is very friendly. We have had several people tell us they hope he comes back so I know he is not lost because someone would have seen him. I am so upset and I am not sure what else I can do, I hope he runs away and get's picked up by the pound so that they will call us.
KittenMoon
Call the cops again. If he's taken your cat, it's legitimate property theft. Explain to them the situation, and what the guy said, which gives you reasonable reason to think it's possible the cat was stolen. I'm so sorry about this situation- good luck getting your cat back! underpants
If the guy is disabled. He may be drawing a disabilty check. Contact your local board of disability and see if you can confirm his new address that way. Obviously the sister lied if she said she has not spoken to him then he calls you 3 hours later. I would not be offended if someone was looking for a cat that I knew. His defensiveness speaks volumes. The cops probably do have alot more pressing matters then a lost cat. However, maybe you can convince one to accompany you and your H to the locale of where you suspect the cat is being kept. If not maybe an animal control officer would me more sympathetic to your plight. Animal control would be able to have a scanner on hand to prove ownership via the microchip. Make sure to let them know the brand of chip that your cat has. Good luck.
Author redfathom
This is long overdue, but I wanted to give an update to this. On Feb 19th we got a call from the Humane Society that someone had found our cat and brought him in (he is microchiped and we reported him lost). Icarus was found 20 miles away from where we live, he went form 11 lbs down to 7 lbs and had a broken leg. When he was found, he still had the collar (breakaway) we got him on but his ID tag was missing, which makes us believe that he was indeed stolen. His leg was so bad they thought they might need to amputate it. It has been broken for what seemed like a while and tissue had started to form over the break. We took him to a good vet and they did surgery on it. For eight weeks he had to stay in a dog crate while his leg healed. I am happy to say that it's been over a month since he has been out of the crate and he is doing fine. While he was gone we adopted two other cats (we thought Icarus was gone forever). Icarus and the other two cats are getting along great. Just a happy update.

Author redfathom
Hi all, Thanks for the congrats. We are so thrilled. He is a little different (personality) wise but overall still the cuddly guy we knew. I wish I could get the guy that took him for the $2500 it cost us to get Icarus' leg fixed.
