ok, maybe diet pills arent what i mean but maybe suppliments?

I am trying to work out and eat right and Ive been working so hard and nothing is happening. nothing. I weigh the same, my clothes fit the same, not getting toned at all yet...... so is there something that i could be taking to help speed this along? something to "help" me lose weight that isnt going to kill my insides???

Heather you've only been doing this for a week. Diet pills aren't the answer. There is no quick fix and you have until spring.

You worry me sometimes. :(

I thought you started last week? My bad then.

You worry me because I don't like to see you being so obsessed with your weight and all and saying you taped a pic of your gown just scares me a little. And now you're thinking of pills.

Bad memories I guess.

Is the exercising making you feel better?

Ive been there- not with pills or anything- but i had a SERIOUS eating disorderwhen I was 17. been 7 years though and I havent done it again...

Since Ive gained like 30 pounds this year (due to medication) Ive been really really depressed.

I want to go back to the wait I was at this time last year. I taped he pic of my wedding gown to the treadmill for extra motivation. At least Im still eating...

exercising isnt really making me feel better because its difficult for me to work out again like i used to carrying 30 extra pounds. My body is in a permanant state of soreness. I still go though- every other day. Just getting no results and its upseting me. I know that i could do this so much faster a different way, but I know that if i skip some meals Im going to skip a lot of meals and I dont want to go back there again. that was so unhealthy.

I said that i didnt really mean diet pills- something like a suppliment. Like something to boost my metabolism. SOmething to help WHILE Im working out and eating better. Just this isnt working and its making me more depressed than I was 3 weeks ago. I only have 5 months until my wedding. I refuse to weigh what i weigh now on April 26th.

One of my pregnant friends is taking that right now. Because her prenatal vitamins are so big and give her crazy gag reflex, her dr told her to take the one a days.

Didnt know that could help me though..

I'm not sure what is in them to make them "weight smart" but I hear that when paired with a healthy diet and exercise they work.

I got a book- The Calorie King. Its awesome. It tells you the calories and fat and carbs in just about anything you can think of. Even specific brands of those foods.

Im going to go on this diet- you take your desired weight and multiply by 11. Thats the number of calories you can have in a day. Then you take THAT number and divide it by 9, then divide by 4. Thats the number of fat grams you can have in a day. So if my goal is to be back down to 120 then i can have 1320 calories. I can have 36 fat grams. Per day. PLus working out to get toned. I should be down to 120 within 3 months or so. As long as I stick to it. But im keeping a food journal. They say- "if you bite it, write it" so yo know exactly how many youve already had. BUt Im going to do a "meal plan" and plan out my meals everyday for the week. That way if I stick to it, I will already know what I am eating that day and that I am not taking in more calories than i should be.

Get some dumbbells and add weight training to your workout...curls, and squats and lunges while holding the weights. You can find something on Youtube that will show you proper form if you search 'weights for women' or something along those lines. That will help build muscle mass, which will help increase your metabolism as muscles burns more calories than fat.

On your treadmill, work out at a higher intensity. For 30 seconds or a minute, walk or run as fast as you can. Then for a minute, slow down and try to catch your breath. Rinse, repeat. If you do that for 15 minutes (plus warm up and cool down), that will rev up your metabolism more than a medium intensity, steady pace at an hour. Google HIIT (high intensity interval training) and read all about why that burns more fat.

Also on Youtube, find the "8 minute abs" workout, and do it 5 times a week. It will be challenging at first, but after the first week, you'll be ok. That will help build your muscles (and muscle mass burns more fat!), so when you do drop the fat, you'll have a toned tummy underneath. If you don't know how to do crunches properly, read up on it. You want to make sure that you exhale when you are contracting the muscles so you are actually pulling it into your stomach - rather than inhaling on the contraction which pushes the muscles out. That's very important.

Also, minimize the 'bad carbs' in your diet. Fat is important to watch out for, but things like white flour in breads and pastas, white rice, etc., are just empty calories that your body will convert to sugar, and will store as fat if you don't burn it off. If you carry weight in your tummy area, or if you are often hungry about an hour and a half after you eat, that's often a sign of eating too many useless carbs that spike your blood sugar level and then drop it dramatically (like a candy bar does) and make you think you're hungry and want to eat.

Thanks. Yeah- at the gym on Wednesday and Friday I did something very similar on the treadmill- i like it, it pumps me up! I am going to look up that 8 minute abs thing though- i do carry weight in my tummy and will want it to look toned once i get rid of all this fat. I feel disgusting sometimes when I look in the mirror and Im really not even that bad. I am 5'7 and weigh about 148 at this point. I'm not FAT but i feel it. I think thats my "eating disorder, body dismorphia" image coming back. I hate mirrors. I want to take all mirrors in my house down until i can get my weight back down to the way I want it.

I wont do any pills or suppliments. I might have like a protein shake before working out or something like that though. I started reading this book I got and now Im a "calorie counter" which i hard can be bad, but if I am planning my meals out in advance and making sure I am getting enough calories of things that I NEED i should be just fine right?

Eau Natural then, here goes

Green Tea capsules - help boost metaolisim.

Co-Enzyme Q10 (can't remember what they do)

Kelp Tabelts - speed up thryroid gland

Fennel - appeitite suppressant

Probiotics & Ginger - aids digestion

3wks down the gym is not long enough to tone up, think it took a year to put it on it won't go in 3wks!! Trust me I have been there and got the t-shirt.

I have been down the gym now for about 4months, I weigh more and have put on some weight but am no bigger in my clothes. Yet being this same weight before I was a dress size bigger, proving I am far more muscluar and toned than before. I just need to stop winter comfort eating.

I know that 3 weeks at the gym isnt going to show anything. I am just frustrated. I think that if i wasnt getting married in 5 months it wouldnt be that big of a deal but- heres the mail reason why I am depressed about it.

We had tons of engagement pictures taken by the photographer that will be doing the wedding. I was so excited to see the pics. He sent us the CD of them. My fiance and I were looking at them and I got about 1/3 of the way through- started crying- got up and walked away. I thought I looked terrible. And really the reason that I thought that is tht there havent really been too many pictures of me since I put on this weight. It was very very hard to see myself look like that. Fiance got upset because he thinks I look beautiful but I told him that he was biased! I sent the pics to my best friends, mom and grandmother and they say I look great. That i look better in them than i looked 2 months ago (these pics were taken on November 8th). I know that my mother would tell me if she thought the same way I did because she isnt afraid to tell me anything. BUt she said there were only 1 or 2 that made me look "top heavy" because of the angle of the shot. I just see these pictures and SWEAR "thats not me".

So- I refuse to look at my WEDDING pictures and feel the same way. I will have those pictures for life and I dont want to look the way I look now in them. I want to look the way I looked a year ago- maybe slightly thinner.

This is the reason why the diet pills/suppliments were on my mind. I know that a quick fix isnt going to help me, but i just need something. I am used to being 110-120 pounds. 110 is too thin for me- i weighed that when I couldt afford to eat. But 120 is perfect. Its what Im used to. I felt good abut myself at that weight. Right now I feel like a blob. I know that I have slight body dysmorphia disorder- but i cant help it. I FEEL FAT. BUt not to worry- I have learned to love food too much to be anorexic again!

Amaysngrace- I know that you said before that I worry you, and Im sure this post is going to make you worry more, I just wanted you to know where Im coming from with this.:(

The longer it takes to come off the longer it stays off. REMEMBER THAT.

Quick fixes just come straight back on once you start eating again.

Try Weightwatchers, its the only one that ever worked for me.

But add the above supplements i mentioned they are all natural so no harm in adding them to what your doing already.

How many times have you heard "you're so skinny!" and they say it in a bad way??? Think back to when you weighed 110. Weren't you really skinny? Bony skinny? Yucky skinny?

Calories is the way to go. Monitor your caloric intake. And don't eat by the clock. Eat by your stomach being hungry. I eat differently all month long. Sometimes I eat and eat and eat. Usually it's before my period. And I just can't get full. Other times I can go all day and not eat until dinnertime. Because I wasn't even hungry or I was too busy to think about it.

People telling you that you look good is probably their honesty. They probably like seeing you with some meat on your bones rather than just your bones alone.

You have time. And as the wedding gets closer you are going to naturally eat less because you are going to be so busy getting things together. So plan on dropping a good five to ten pounds the month right before.

So take your time. Relax about it. Because stressing yourself over it for the next six months isn't doing anything but causing you anxiety. And anxiety causes emotional eating.

So chill out...you're going to be gorgeous! :)

I have hih enough anxiety with this wedding! And i dont know why because just about everything is done. Theres not a whole lot to worry about!

They do like seeing me with meat on my bones, but thats because they all have meat on their bones. Theyve never been as thin as I have. I dont think that 120 was too skinny. When I was 110 you could start to see that it was too much. But like I said, 120 was good for me. not boney skinny. But could see definition. You could see my hip bones- now you can see them- well- the fat that surrounds them and therefor now defines them... Im just being stupid.

We had Thanksgiving lunch here at work today and I ate with them. That wasnt good for me- all that turkey and mashed potatoes and stuffing and gravy. Too many calories..........theyre all eating pumpkin pie right now- Im fighting the urge to get up and get some. But I know that if I do- I will work out for at least 30 minutes extra tonight.

1) It depends how long youv'e been working out. It can take up to 8 weeks to notice any kind of difference at all. And that's if your going hardcore at least 3-4 X weekly. ALSO depending on your baseline (the condition you started out at)...it could take even longer..

2) It also depends on what kind of work outs your doing. Have you met with a trainer at the gym? That person can design a program specific to your needs. You might not be doing exercise that is really beneficial to you specifically. Cardio in general is for everyone, but muscle groups need certain types of exercises to get toned.

3) Crunches, crunches, work up to doing 100 everyday and if your clothes don't fit better in 6-8wks, I'll refund your money. ha ha...no really...and if your gym has a bench for this, use it...you lay down on your back with your feet resting on a bar, and there are handles over your head for your hands; you adjust the weights to your liking. this works way better than just doing them on the floor.

4) Protein promotes muscle...eat more of it (or get the high-cal shakes)....don't ignore carbs, you need them for fuel.

5) I am a nurse but not a Dr; however you could also have a metabolic problem of some sort, particularly thyroid...you might want to call your doc and ask for a TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) level, just to make sure your thyroid isn't over or under reactive. Thyroid probs can contribute to weight maintenance, big time. In this case it's just a matter of taking a daily pill. I even know a Weight loss Dr. who prescribes thyroid Rx to almost all of his patients, even if they don't have a thyroid problem

I would not recommend diet pills. Long story.....I know from personal exprience.

Have you tried calorie counting? Please note a woman should never go below 1,200 calories and man should never go below 1,500 calories. The more weight you have to lose, the more calories you need to eat!

If you are under 18 years old, please discuss this with a doctor.

If this isn't working I would suggest getting your thyriod checked by the doctor.

In general, people at my gym have started calorie counting and not lost any weight for 5 weeks....then it starts coming off!

Weight tarining is fantastic!

I hope you are doing well. Chin up......you will lose weight!:)

I am studying to be a nutritionist...Let me tell you something, you are not going to experience a lot of physical change in your body in three weeks, if you haven't been doing doing exercise for more than three years..you are going to start really looking at results one year from now..why? because it is all an internal huge process. I mean your body has to start burning up the bad fats, to increase the good fats in your body, you are not going to make your muscle cells reproduce, but they need to grow..when the muscle cells know they are using energy and stuff, they start burning up the fat and that is when you are going to start noticing the tone and stuff..right now you are not going to rpesence a lot of noticeable change in weight, maybe you are even gonna have a higher weight because it is not the weight that matters, but the process involved in your body which is changing and obviously if your muscle cells are growing then you are gonna weight a little more and that is when you are going to start burning up fat...keep on with the good regimen, it is good for you, for you to be healthy believe me, you don't know how many diseases you are preventing by doing that, I know it is hard at first because your body is accostumed to that way of life, but whenever you do start feeling the changes you are going to be sooo happy....if you need some kind of courage or whatever, maybe you should consider psychologic therapy...to go through emotional changes if you are really overweight if you feel depressed if you feel nervous or something, but if you are not that really overweight, and you know you are doing this for a good change..just keep on doing it, don't get disappointed, it is normal at first..

I am not waiting a year for results. I am getting married in 5 months. This is what I am working so hard for.

I am not really overweight. I am 5'7 and about 142(ish)pounds at this point. Also know that I am very chest heavy (DD). I am depressed about the weight, ut its not like I weight 250 pounds and cant walk.......

I have not noticed ANY change at all and this is starting to upset me. I go at least 4 times a week, sometimes 5. I think I need to start going everyday. My stamina is up. I can run a solid mile without stopping now. then i speedwalk a half mile, then run a mile again. I feel good after I work out- like I accomplished something. ...but none of my clothes fit better. I wont even step on a scale because I know Im going to be disappointed.

Therapy isnt going to help me lose weight, so to me that is pointless. I have been to therapists for my (many) pyschological issues, and talking to my mother seems to help me more than a therapist ever did...

At 5'7 and 142ish, especially with the DD's, your weight is normal. If you have a decent amount of muscle, it's a *good* weight, right where you should, ideally be.

Have you ever had your body fat % measured? You can ask a personal trainer to do that for you at your gym. It isn't too expensive and will give you a better idea of your fitness level. As you keep working out, the % will fall. This is really what working out/dieting for the sake of appearance is about.

What do you want us to tell you? You're already a good weight, you're already working out... if you want to be waiflike, border-line eating-disorder thin, that's not a good idea, nor is it healthy or attractive, and I don't think anyone on this site is going to offer you ideas on how to accomplish that.

Diet pills only work if you take more than they recommend. But in esence NOTHING will make you lose weight except being hungry. You have ti starve yourself whle eating the healthy stuff at the same time. Proteins, veggies, fruits, etc. but you have to be hugnry for a whole month and go to bed hungry as hel in order to lose weight. I am trying to lose 15 lbs myself and it's not going very well. It's hardr after 30. But starvation does melt the fat. ;)

But starvation does melt the fat. ;)

Starvation also eats up the muscle, which results in a slowed metabolism, which then makes it much easier to regain the weight. And starvation throws the body in, er, "starvation mode" which means it slows the metabolism down because it tries to conserve calories because it doesn't expect to be fed.

It's not something you can keep up, and it's very bad for your body, and, it ultimately makes it harder to maintain your weight.

You need to focus on:

Build muscles - revs up your metabolism and keeps the calories burning all day (not just during exercise). Do some resistance exercises to build muscles in upper and lower body - dumbbells or resistance bands, lunges and squats with dumbbells, etc.

Do some hi intensity, short duration cardio - burns calories during exercise, and the hi-intensity (where you are really pushing yourself) will keep your metabolism on high for more hours after you stop the exercise, more so than doing loooong sessions of low-intensity cardio. You have to get your heart rate way up there during the exercise.

Food - you have to eat to fuel the muscle build. Starvation will just give you the same flabby body you have with the bulges in all the wrong places, just smaller than it is now, and it will only work for a short while before you start gaining weight because your metabolism is crawling.
