is there any kind of anxiety medicine that I can buy at the grocery store?

Recommended Posts

This whole year has just sucked really bad. The worst year I have ever had. I found out I have anxiety/ panic disorders. My doctor game me pills so I took them. I took probably 4 different ones. And none of them did a damn thing. They actually made me feel worse to the point I had to stop cause I was getting nightmares and bad things from the past would pop up in my head from over 5 years ago. basically stuff I never ever thought about it was scary. I have been off pills for about 17 days but i still feel funny. The reason I dont want to take any more pills from my doctor is I feel like they dont do a thing besides make my life worse.

Anyways I dont want to keep complaing but I was wondering if anyone knew if there is any anxiety/panic disorder pills they sell at the grocery store I could take?

or something similar to that?

Please help I need it.:)

None in the stores. Have you tried Zanax? Stay off the caffiene. Usually medication and theraphy helps. You cannot handle this illness alone It will handle you if you don`t get medical care. I feel for you. My daughter has this and she is an RN.

Read up on your problem, educate yourself. There is a medication that your doctor will find that will help you. Do you try breathing slowly when you get these?

The illness never goes away. If you do not takes meds and see a shrink your episodes will get worse which I think you already know that.

Read up on your problem. Anxiety is scary, but in reality, it is very controllable. I have had mild forms of it based on situations. I have never needed medication for it. here are some good antidepressants that work, but I think they are best used in conjunction with therapy.

As for herbal remedies, they will not work any better. St Johns wort is used for mild depression. Kava kava has been used for anxiety, but these are not only less reliable than prescripts, but they can be harmful.

See the doctor and if he doesn't help, see another. IMO, a psychiatrist is best.

Snowman, please do the therapy - Cognitive Behavoiur Therapy (CBT). I also suffer(ed) from anxiety and panic attacks, it got really bad, bad enough that I was too scared to hit rock bottom, so I reached out and found myself an amazing therapist. I know it's scary to take the next step, but it's something you have to do, otherwise the anxiety WILL take over your life and control you.

The meds can help, to a point, but you need to talk to someone about your fears, whether it be something from your past, a stressful event, a phobia that has gotten worse, or just general fears of the unknown...Talk therapy works! And, this isn't the type of therapy where you lay down on a couch for an hour and spill it all - The Therapist WILL teach you ways of coping with your anxiety, helping you learn skills to control it. Doing yoga, breathing exercises, visualization, and re-training your brain into more positive thoughts rather than the negative and scary thoughts which make you feel the anxiety and have panic attacks.

Please keep posting, you're not alone in this, there are many people on here who do suffer from anxiety and can help! Feel free to ask me anything about my recovery, my story, as I'm an open book now when it comes to anxiety and panic attacks. I would like to help you through this!

You're welcome. Now I need to ask you - Are you going to look for a therapist? Google cognitive behaviour therapists and your City. Check local hospitals, clinics, college/university's..Some are covered with insurance, some aren't.

I know taking that 1st step is really hard, I've been there - Infact I nearly ran out of the waiting room while waiting for my 1st Therapy appointment! Luckily my husband was there with me and my sister called me on the cell to check in with me, so between the two, neither of them were gonna let me bolt for the door!

Get support, family and friends...More people these days do suffer bouts of anxiety and depression, you'd be surprised how many are very understanding.
