Retraining for a cooking career

Has anyone retrain themselves for a cooking career in their early 30s after getting a degree and working some years but realised that their passion in their present work fizzled and find new interest in cooking as a career? However, being in a total new field, one has to retrain from the start like enrolling in a 2 yr cooking academy? I am in this situation and not sure if I should pursue my cooking interest or just be contented to be a homemaker or work in a job for the sake of passing time. I find that many successful persons know their passion and persist to train or work in their field since young and eventually do well in their mid 30s. For me, I did not know where my passion lies till now but feels too late to start training for it. Any opinions? Thanks for sharing any valuable experiences you may have. :)

Never let anyone or anything block you from realizing your dreams. Go prepare the kitchen and let me know when the food's on the table.

 

Ray Kroc started McDonalds in his late 60's. Col. Harland Sanders started Kentucky Fried Chicken in his mid 70's. You are a spring chicken and the colonel will fry you up if you don't get to cooking school soon.

Tony, That was Ray Krok's dream! :) But it doesnt mean its my dream,to work at McDonalds,but I guess its not that bad.

Just A Girl2

I have a friend who's a Vet. It was her lifelong ambition to be one but "life got in the way".....it wasn't until her early 40's that she was able to devote 8 yrs to becoming a Vet. I'm sure some thought she was "too old" or too strange for starting out in a new field at this age, but she followed her dream/heart and she's very fulfilled and happy.

 

I've known several women, too, who married young, were housewives/stay at home Moms and while they found that very fulfilling, when their children were ready to leave the 'nest' they wanted something else for themself...some went to university, some went to college, some started their own home based businesses. I think there's actually a lot of women in their late 30's, 40's, 50's in college nowadays............I think it's terrific for women to be true to themself and acknowledge their dreams and passions.

 

If cooking is something you want to pursue, by all means do it and be proud of yourself for having the courage to follow your heart!!! Best of luck :-)

Thanks for your encouragement. But my husband much prefers me to learn Japanese language well since we are in Japan (3 years) and to be a homemaker or at most work in a childcare centre to pass time. That's where my problem lies.
