just met the most amazing girl, but...

right...

basically a year ago i was hoping to learn japanese so i posted an advert on a penpal site so i could learn from a native speaker.

anyway, one day a girl from Sweden added me after reading it (i live in the UK). we spoke once and then didnt talk for about 3 months.

one day she finally said hello and we spoke on msn for about 6 hours and got on really well. since then, we've spoken nearly everyday and have gotten to know a lot about each other. we also use a webcam (nothing sexual) just so we can see each other instead of staring at a computer screen all night.

she already admitted that when she first started talking to me, she thought it would be something that would last a week and then she'd get bored and move on however 3 months later were still speaking more than ever and im actually going to sweden to stay with her for a week in february.

she's a christian and doesnt believe in sex before marriage which is fine by me, i mean i respect her beleifs even though im not religious in any way. i've never enjoyed talking to someone as much as her and i really want to be with her. also, the other day we were asking each other questions in order to get to know each other better and she said the best thing about her life right now is me. hearing that made me happier than ive ever been in my life and i already knew i felt the same.

basically she has had to restart the last 2 years of school for reasons that i dont have a right to post on a public forum but you get the picture i hope.

she has told me that when she finishes in 18 months time, she plans to move to the UK (she's been planning this since before we met) and i'm more than happy to wait for her since we can talk online and we can visit each other as often as we possibly can until then.

she's honestly the most amazing girl i've ever met and we get on incredibly well, but am i crazy to want to wait nearly 2 years for a girl???

i think about her all the time and she's made it quite clear she feels the same way.

she's also a really honest person and is far more mature than anyone i know in the UK.

im 21 and she's 18.

any thoughts or advice?

thanks.

You're not crazy.

The thing is, you'll never know unless you try. It'll be tough, and sometimes you'll wonder if you're doing the right thing, but you need to try it. Otherwise you'll wonder 'what if' which is just not good.

If things don't work out then at least you'll know you both tried.

Yay! Sounds like you are very happy!!!

Only you know if you can wait out the two years. I don't think you are crazy for doing it, I won't deny its hard, but if you think its worth it, then you'll be fine. Obviously, you have already created a system of communications that works for you. I'd also suggest that you guys meet before she makes the move to the UK. Maybe after 6 months or something. Maybe you go visit her in June, or she comes out to you. That way, you know that you're getting what you think you're waiting for.

Good luck!

Sounds like you two have a really good connection. There's lots of success stories online etc, but realistically though, I don't see it working out. You're both pretty young, and a lot can happen in 2 years. I would take it day by day, enjoy the time you do spend with her and talk to her, but don't start planning too far ahead so if things don't go your way, the recovery will be easier.

Best of luck though! :)

You like each other and she's got a plan to move to the UK. Hey, I think it could actually work. In my opinion, having a long-term plan is one of the most important things for an LDR to succeed.

Enjoy the relationship and let us know how things go in February when you meet her!

Best of luck,

-E

I dont think your age has anything to do with it. my parents were the same age as you guys when they met and six months later they were married and have been together for 27 years. I would try meeting in person as much as you can before she moves, I dont know if thats an option though.

I in a very same situation.. very very same.. My girlfriend is also very religious I am moderately religious.. i'm 20 she's 19.. however we were together 4 months before our ldr started and we have a 3 year waiting period probably.. I'm crazy about my girl but, honestly, I dont know if it will work.. 3 years!! it's a long time.. The point is I really want it to work and so does she... we might as well try (like said before in other posts). I cant see myself going along without her and neither can she, and we do have an end date. I think that's a must. I think the religion thing helps a lot too.. For us it's really made the trust issues a lot easier.. I think that is most couples' problems in LDRs... good luck...

Something else to think about: people say LDRs never work but most relationships never "work", if they did we'd all have only had love in our lifetimes.. I heard that somewhere.. peace

hey, thanks for the support.

as for meeting up, as i said in my first post, i have a week off work at the end of february and im going to stay with her for a week. my best friend is coming along too just in case it doesnt work out and i end up stuck in a foreign country on my won for a week haha.

she hopes to come over for 3 weeks to work in the summer and i told her shes more than welcome to stay with me and that i could possibly even get her a job during the summer if she wanted it.

obviously i'll know more after february but everything seems good so far.

she isn't too confident in her english ability although we never have much problem on msn so i think she might be nervous more than anything.

anyway, thanks again for the comments and ill keep you posted if anything happens :)
