Microgestin BCP and depression

Recommended Posts

Anyone have any experience of this?

I've been taking it for about a year now. I'm on an extended cycle, which means I don't take the placebos every month, but instead only every 3 months or so.

I've also been struggling with depression for several years, to greater and lesser degrees, but I've noticed that this past year it's been rather harder to get under control. I chalked that up to various external forces.

But then, during the most recent placebo week, I noticed something interesting - I felt better and more "myself" than I have in a while; somewhat less strung out and worried about things, more able to let things roll off my back than usual. It only lasted a couple of days, and I can't remember if that happened the last time, too (since it's been months). But I couldn't help wondering if the pills were contributing to my mood. So I looked it up and found that Microgestin may be linked to depression in some people.

I'm just curious about whether anyone else has had this experience with this pill? I'm planning to talk to my doctor about switching medications, but I've had (different) bad side effects with other pills, so I don't know what to switch to. Gah.
