Would you die for your ideals/beliefs?

Recommended Posts

Yea let's say there was a law and you are getting killed if you don't change your ideals. They go to the extreme of making you sign something in which you deny everything you did or say in order to save your life.

Would you be a hypocrite and save your life or continue with what you think even if that means death.

An example is that poor Joan of Arc girl, getting cooked alive.

As for me if being atheist meant beling executed then I'll be a hypocrite to the people and lived as a hermit away from all while nobody would know the real me just me. I would not go to the extreme of giving up my life, no way.

I'd choose to be killed and die for my beliefs.

Hypothetically, isn't every body going to die regardless of what they believe?

Good thing you don't live in Iraq!

There are a lot of things I would die for. Freedom most of all because that is the umbrella under which all other beliefs and ideals are protected. Good thing I live in the USA. :)

:) I guess my outlook on death would be different, precisely BECAUSE of my beliefs … and no, I wouldn't be afraid to die for my beliefs, simply because they're such an ingrained part of me. Would I rather live? Of course, but then again I couldn't live with myself knowing that it took a lie (i.e., rejecting my spiritual beliefs) to keep my butt alive. And because I understand that death is just the next step, and nothing to fear because of my acceptance of Christ's promise of life everlasting.

Shakespeare says it best:

“Life's but a walking shadow, a poor player, that struts and frets his hour upon the stage and then is heard no more; it is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.”

I would lie if my life depended on it. Really just depends on the level of danger. If the government was systematically killing atheists, I think I would enjoy doing a little freedom fighting. But if I was alone (without a company of brave patriots) I would be very interested in preserving my life in anyway that I could.

I have already lied about my ideals in order to get a job.

I had to pretend to be a Christian in order to work at a church. The application was basically an essay were I had to give my testimony. I loved that job and I miss the money.

In my faith, there will be a time where if you refuse to take the mark of the beast, you will not be able to buy or sell.......anything.

A short time after, those who refuse to call the leader of the world Lord will be killed.

I don't know. I would like to say yes, and as I type this, I think yes. But as with lots of situations like this, one never knows until one is in the position.

I guess that when we are in such a situation, then we pray for the strength and wisdom from God to decide the right thing. If death by martyrdom is the result, then so be it.

A story to illustrate....

Two old sisters came up to Dr. (Dwight L.) Moody & asked him a question after the church service one night. They said, "Dr. Moody, do you have dying grace?" He said, "No, dear sisters, I don't." And they looked shocked! "Why, Dr. Moody! You don't have dying grace?" He said, "No, I'm not dying yet!"

I think this is why our answers now may not be our answers at that moment.

Take care of your life and the Lord will take care of your death.

I would kill and/or die for my beliefs, if it came to that. That belief being that everyone everywhere has the right to think as they wish and express themselves openly without censorship.

Try to eliminate that, and it's "go time"!

There are many beliefs about just about everything. I think it would be pretty pompous of me to think that mine, over all the others, was worthy of dying over. I think everybody is entitled to believe in what they want.

I do believe I have a right to live and that's the only belief I would die for...BUT somebody else would surely die just before that. Otherwise, I would fight to my death for everybody's right to believe whatever the hell they want to. NAH, I would probably stop just short of my death.

Yes but if I had to choose between

Option A) Refusing to sign the paper and getting burn alive, hang, or whatever painful death and fight till the end

Option B) Save myself being a hypocrite and thus living until I die of natural cause as an old lady (no dying young nor painful death involved)

Obviously I would go for option B. I want to live the longest. No I don't rigdoubt I have the hts to not believe in what I don't but if it's between living a long life or dying young at age 20 due to my smart mouth then I would know better when to shut up.

So to me first comes my life (I want to live as long as 100 years old and I would simply not let anyone take that away from me) and then comes my rights.

There was this saying once.

ä)Oh there ran a coward from his attackers and save himself or

b)There a brave man (I would say stupid) confronted his attackers and got beaten to death as a result

Okay, for those of you who wouldn't die for anyone or anything.

Hypothetical:

Your country was invaded by an overwhelming military force, way beyond the size of your military. Would you pick up a gun and fight for the freedom of you and your loves ones, or would you roll over and surrender?

Last option, roll over and surrender. I value my life a lot.

Yeah - I remember that. Some coward wrote about it. I guess he felt guilty afterwards.

Two barrels? How unusual...

Old west slang, from a side by side double barrel shotgun would be the close combat weapon of choice. Instead of firing once and having a second shot in reserve you shoot both barrels at once hopefully doubleing the impact on target.

Today with poker being shown on TV a similiar saying would be "all in".
