What do people who regularly visit LS have in common?

Hah. that's funny. I have to agree, some people come here to spew opinions that are bizarre and/or absurd. It makes for interesting reading and usually leads to long threads.

That is true as well. They always end up resorting to personal attacks and then they get banned, only to come back with a new username, although some just get suspended and keep coming back for more.

I do tend to think of LS as a support group. And I have wondered often the stories behind how people came to find and join this site.:-)

I stumbled upon it through googling search terms like "psychotic housemate" "narcissism" and "I regret behaving dishonourably towards my ex girlfriend lindya."

I like the threads that deal with hypotheticals...and I especially like the posts that are well enough thought out and written that they make me examine my own beliefs critically. I've seldom seriously sought advice on the board, as the advice tends to often be generalised and I usually prefer to sound out people who know me.

There are one or two posters I'll mull stuff over with privately, though. It's interesting to get a perspective from people who only know you as an Internet persona, and compare it to the kind of advice you get in real life.

So you only respect the opinions of one or two LSers? Whatever, dude, I see how it is. :D

Well, sometimes it's hard to tell if the two user names you have befriended are actually more than one person.

It sure is.

:lmao: It would be funny if there were really only 2 users on LS.

Which one are you? Maybe you and I are the same user.

Maybe we're all distinct personalities of the same person like in Identity starring John Cusack.

I've been sulking in a corner, waiting to see if anyone would notice.

I don't disrespect the more generalised advice or the people who give it, but I get more out of discussing things with people who push me into examining things from fresh angles when I'm in a dilemma. The people who help you do that tend to be the ones who are so hooked on problem solving/understanding human behaviour that they've invested a bit of time in studying it and will go the extra mile in analysis, problem solving and lateral thinking.

Not everyone likes it that way. Some people find a lot of analysis irritating and boring. Sometimes an analytical poster will put up a lengthy response to someone that they've spent a fair bit of time thinking through, and the response will be ignored in favour of far more concise, generalised advice. Everyone has their preferred posters/advice styles.

Gotcha. FWIW, a lot of the overly analytical posts strike me as just mental masturbation. A lot of times they come across as a person who has their nose pressed up to the TV screen and is examining each pixel to try to get a sense of the picture when if they would just step back for a second and not get so hung up on the details they'd see the picture as a whole.
