Whyme_wtf Posted January 8, 2008 Share Posted January 8, 2008 My girl friend has been in theatre and also has an incredibly gifted voice. She has auditioned and has a part in a Love Cabaret the week of Valentines Day. She will be singing many duets of Love songs with other men and I am afraid I will have some odd feelings. I feel music deeply at its lyrical and musical core and I am worried how I will feel. Any help to get me past this or provide a mantra (it's only acting, its not real), would help. We had a conversation about that week as it will cut into Valentines Day, but we think everyday is Valentines Day for us. She asked if I had other feelings and I told her about this and that it may be difficult and we talked. I was glad to talk about it on an even level and it helped. I wished she had said that I would be her mantra and focus but I know there is a whole lot to deal with more than singing a solo. Thank you for the feedback. Link to post Share on other sites

LucreziaBorgia Posted January 8, 2008 Share Posted January 8, 2008 Her focus won't be on you or the other guys, or love or any of that. Her focus will be onstage - will she hit her cue? Will she miss a note? Will she forget the words? Will the audience think she sucks? What if her voice goes out? And so on. I would think that when she is onstage, her mind is onstage too and her heart is beating frantically, but not out of love - out of the thrill of being onstage performing.
