charliepapa
G'Day I am used to having my opinions disregarded in my family but recently I am being isolated because I am single. I am the oldest of three siblings. My sister got married last august and my brother is getting married this august and of course all the time I am being pushed aside more as I have even less in common. My opinions have always been more on the extreme side so my family has always generally disregarded them because they can not understand them. Is summary my family is treating me like the eccentric older son and sibling and it hurts. Of course I am not at all eccentric. Any thoughts?
Ronni_W
CP, we actually have a similar dynamic going on in our family -- my mom became over-dependent on the people she cares about for "validation" of all her thoughts, words, actions, beliefs and opinions. She is getting help (through literature from Codependents' Anonymous) to gain confidence in her own, er, "inner world" -- we're hoping that will help her to not care so much about what others think or say. It might not be exactly what you're going through...does anything strike a chord?
