Antithesis
It's amazing how versatile those songs are. "In My Life" spoke to me during my first breakup, back in high school; e; for those memories; Texas summer afternoons and making love in lakes. That song chokes me up every time I hear it. Yet, it no longer makes me yearn for those times. It only brings back the memories.
Pyro
lol, She hates me was the only one I saw reference to on this thread. However, I was thinking more from a humourous point of view. Surely it doesn't have to be all melancholy here! Right you are Joebo.

Storyrider
Must admit although very pop-ish, I like "Last Request." But I just saw the video last night and it was sort of a turn-off. I don't think he matches his voice at all. He has such a pouty, effeminate look. "Ramble On" by Led Zeppelin is a good breakup song.

take97
He knows this song always makes me think of us Diamond Rio - One More Day Last night I had a crazy dream A wish was granted just for me It could be for anything I didn't ask for money Or a mansion in Malibu I simply wished, for one more day with you One more day One more time One more sunset, maybe I'd be satisfied But then again I know what it would do Leave me wishing still, for one more day with you First thing I'd do, is pray for time to crawl Then I'd unplug the telephone And keep the TV off I'd hold you every second Say a million I love you's That's what I'd do, with one more day with you One more day One more time One more sunset, maybe I'd be satisfied But then again I know what it would do Leave me wishing still, for one more day with you Leave me wishing still, for one more day Leave me wishing still, for one more day http://www.cowboylyrics.com/lyrics/diamond-rio/one-more-day-3264.html

nashua
I Can't Make You Love Me by Bonnie Raitt Breaking by Northmont I think we listen to the songs because it relates to our situation and it reminds us of our ex's My God, this song STILL makes me upset when I think about it. This is by far the best (and worst) breakup song because it fits so well for me.

prdx
Bright Eyes - "Haligh, Haligh, A Lie, Haligh" The phone slips from a loose grip Words were missed then, some apology "I didn’t want to tell you this No, it’s just some guy she's been hanging out with I don’t know, the past couple weeks I guess" Well, thank you and hang up the phone Let the funeral start, hear the casket close Let’s pin split-black ribbon to your overcoat Well, laughter pours from under doors In this house, I don’t understand that sound no more It seems artificial, like a TV set Well, haligh, haligh, a lie, haligh This weight it must be satisfied You offer only one reply You know not what you do But you tear and tear your hair from roots From that same head you have twice removed now A lock of hair you said would prove Our love would never die Well, ha ha ha I remember everything The words we spoke on freezing South Street And all those mornings watching you get ready for school You combed your hair inside that mirror The one you painted blue and glued with jewelry tears Something about those bright colors Would always make you feel better But now we speak with ruined tongues And the words we say aren’t meant for anyone It’s just a mumbled sentence to a passing acquaintance But there was once you You said you hate my suffering And you understood And you’d take care of me You'd always be there Well where are you now? Haligh, haligh, a lie, haligh The plans were never finalized But left to hang like yarn and twine Dangling before my eyes As you tear and tear your hair from roots From that same head you have twice removed now A lock of hair you said would prove Our love would never die And I sing and sing of awful things The pleasure that my sadness brings As my fingers press onto the strings In yet another clumsy chord Haligh, haligh, an awful lie This weight will now be satisfied I'm gonna give you only one reply I know not who I am But I talk in the mirror To the stranger that appears Our conversations are circles Always one sided Nothing is clear Except we keep coming back To this meaning that I lack He says the choices were given Now you must live them Or just not live But do you want that? ******************************* The Cure - "Untitled" Hopelessly drift In the eyes of the ghost again Down on my knees And my hands in the air again Pushing my face in the memory of you again But I never know if it's real Never know how I wanted to feel Never quite said what I wanted to say to you Never quite managed the words to explain to you Never quite knew how to make them believable And now the time has gone Another time undone Hopelessly fighting the devil Futility Feeling the moster Climb deeper inside of me Feeling him gnawing my heart away Hungrily I'll never lose this pain Never dream of you again
Ofleg7
Eddie Rabbitt - Every which way but lose. I've always been the kind of man who doesn't believe in strength Long term obligation's just an unneccessary thing But girl you got me thinking, while I'm drinking one more beer If I'm heading for a heartache, why the hell am I still here? loveralone
Seriously, I thinkg the entire album "Details" by Frou Frou is one of the BEST breakup albums EVER!!! Really, everything Imogen Heap sings is great breakup music...Here's a snipet of one of my favorites: The Dumbing Down of Love Well painted passion You rightly expect Impersonation The dumbing down of love Jaded in anger Love underwhelms you No box of chocolates Whichever way you fall And if i tell you Lover alone without love What will happen Lover alone without love Will you listen Lover alone without love
sedona
I can't listen to any songs that bring me down right now. I cry enough as it is. I need the complete opposite. So...
