Accident Prone

Recommended Posts

I was going to put this in parenting but felt I might get more responses here. My sister has three kids. Ages 8, 5 and 2 years of age. The 2 year old, who is just the best child ever! He seems to be very accidnet prone. Everytime you turn around it seems he has hurt himself. He falls all the time or runs into things, and just the other day he was at my house and he was not running, but walking, and wasn't paying attention to where he was going, and ran right into the wall, and got a goose egg on the side of his head. And yes, I know kids get hurt sometimes.

He has fallen over a coffee table before and cut his eye. He has been to the emergency room right many times since he could walk. He is not a hyper child be any means. Her other two kids were not like that, and of course every child is different. She did talk with her pedetrian about it and he said some kids are just more accident prone than others. That was pretty much it.

I was just wondering if anyone knew WHY it might be that some are more prone than others? I understand the doctor said some are just more prone but he didn't give a answer as to why. I'm afraid he is going to get hurt really bad one day.

I was going to say, maybe if he was hyper then he might be more accident prone, but you said he wasn't so I'm not sure.

Well considering that he's only 2, he's still getting the hang of his physical body and coordination. Toddlers slowly gain control of their bodies, become steady walkers, and become more coordinated. Some children just develop at different rates. My oldest nephew was very physical and coordinated at an early age, but he still had difficulty with language, communication, and reading until he was about 6/7 years old. His younger sister, however, was much more verbally adept and communicative, but walked slower.

That was going to be my answer.:)

It is really hard to tell. It could be something about his physiology (e.g. length of limbs, size of feet, feet turned in or out) his method of walking, his eyesight, his inner ear (balance) his impulsivity, whether he's dreamy and doesn't look where he's going, the shoes he's wearing, his neurological development, etc. etc.

I used to work with a lady who had a daughter who was very accident prone. All the way up until she was about 10 or 11 years old, and then I think she kind of grew out of it. They even took her and had some tests run, like neurological type of tests, and everything came back fine.
