TotalChaos
Hello. A woman that I work with started taking a doctor prescribed diet pill called adipex. She swears by this medication and recommends it to everyone that is wanting to lose weight. Does anyone of any experience with this medication?
SeraBella
My mother's taken it and liked it. I'm not certain of the side effects and such. I know a girl who has an eating disorder and was addicted to Adderall. She's gotten over all of that now through lots and lots of rehab, but a couple months ago she took some Adipex (stolen from a friend) and claimed it gave her the same rush and she immediately went to her counselor because she was afraid of a relapse. So, I'm fairly certain it is habit forming and highly addictive.

mscaprine
Here's a link to that: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phentermine It is addictive over time and has a lot of side effects. Also known as FenPhen, there were people who developed heart problems from it. Was very popular at first until these problems became publicized. It's in the amphetamine class of drugs. NowWhat
I'm just posting a response to the poster who said Phentermine is FenPhen. First of all, FenPhen is no longer available and hasn't been for years. Phetermine was one of the drugs used in FenPhen but has been used by itself for weight loss since the 1960's. It's one of the safest and oldest diet drugs available today. It can be habit forming and should only be used under the supervision of a doctor.
mscaprine
My bad! I was speedreading that link. FenPhen was indeed a mixed cocktail that included Phentermine. I think I'd personally pass on anything that is addictive over time (read that it is for short term use only). I would hesitate to call a drug like that "safe". Depends on what you are willing to risk to lose weight, I guess. What will you do when you can't take it for the long term? Back to square one. I have no doubt that the lady in question lost weight on it, though, since it is an amphetamine-class drug. Edited February 23, 2008 by mscaprine
sb129
I have tried these kind of amphetamine based diet pills before, and they do work for sure. But i also got bad side effects, like a dry mouth, insomnia, and I got quite moody sometimes too.

D-Lish
I dated a guy in college- back when I was retarded- who told me I could lose weight with this magic pill (apparantly being 5'7 and 130lbs wasn't acceptable to him.) Well- it was speed.... and I lost 20 lbs, shook like a leaf and got addicted. Then..... my wedding came around and I took a brand new pill that my mother in law recommended that had phen-phen (or whatever) and then saw an expose that women were having strokes from it... We should apprach any new miracle cure with caution. We also need to decide- are we taking this because we are ACTUALLY overweight.... or just in need of a quick solution.
