Prodigal Princess
My sister is getting married in a few months and we are trying to find a song for her walk down the aisle. It's a beach wedding with only a few people so all very casual, and she doesn't want anything too traditional or obvious (i.e. no Here Comes the Bride or Pachabel's Canon!). We are both new to this whole wedding planning thing and its driving me bonkers. Has anyone out there got any ideas?
saviourself
not really sure about songs to walk down the aisle to since i'm used to the traditional crap. haven't really put much thought into that myself either. first, i'd narrow down the selection by figuring out if you want songs with lyrics, instrumentals or both, and then figure out the "mood" that the song should set. that should help the search out a lot. however, i did stumble upon a website or two giving suggestions for "first dance" songs... maybe you could get some ideas from that. i don't remember the exact websites but maybe you could google "wedding songs", "top wedding songs" or "music to walk down the aisle" and it should return something you can either use, or work off of. good luck in your search
a4a
In this day and age perhaps Nancy Sinatra "These boots were made for walking"
Author Prodigal Princess
I have already googled this to death... All that comes up are classic song suggestions, which is not at all the vibe of this wedding. One of my mates had "White Wedding" by Billy Idol playing as she walked down the aisle, I'd like to find something quirky like that! Any other suggestions?
marlena
Ravel's Bolero, perhaps?
Author Prodigal Princess
Ravel's Bolero, perhaps? Marlena, I am specifically looking for songs that aren't classical. I have been to so many boring, traditional weddings. We want this one to be fun and different (just like the couple). Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated! curiousnycgirl
Well the first thing that popped into my head was she's always a woman by billy joel - because here comes the bride is all about HER. But then I did a web search on love songs - and there are OODLES of options Declaration of Love by Celine Dion A Whole New World - theme song from Aladdin Every Breath you take - the Police For Once In my Life - Stevie Wonder Have I told you Lately - Rod Stewart Heaven and Earth - Al Jarreau I do cherish You - 98 Degrees I Finally Found Someone - Barbra Streisand & Bryan Adams I got my baby - Faith Hill Can you tell it's an alphabetical list? I could keep going, but need to do other things
IaminLove
I am walking down the aisle to "Lost in this moment" by Big and Rich.. I heard it at my friends wedding and loved it.. I am not huge on country so that was the first time I ever heard it. The song I had picked before was "Forever" by John Stamos and the Beach Boys.
tanbark813
I Finally Found Someone - Barbra Streisand & Bryan Adams This one would crack me up if I heard it at a wedding. It's kind of like, "Man, I FINALLY found someone. I didn't think this shyt was ever going to happen." And then there's this line: "And whatever I do, It's just got to be you!" Whoa. Star Gazer
I have fantasies of somehow incorporating Nick Lachey's, "This I Swear" somehow into my wedding, reception, wedding video, something. It's kinda cheesy to use HIS music of all people, and his marriage to JS obviously didn't last, but I think it's the perfect commitment/wedding/forever song. The lyrics are beautiful. Mustang Sally
I kind of like Stevie Wonder's "Isn't She Lovely." I know it's really about his baby girl, but I think it's still quite fitting for a bride walking down the aisle - especially if she is being escorted by her father/step-father/etc. But even if not escorted by her father(figure). Just my thoughts. Let us know what you come up with!
curiousnycgirl
UGH I wish I hadn't read this thread, now my mind keeps running on and on Sunshine of My life - Stevie Wonder You're the Inspiration - Chicago Suddenly - Billy Ocean I'm sure this post won't shut off my brain! curiousnycgirl
Sunrise/Sunset from Fiddler on the Roof - I know totally not funky, but was running through my brain as my baby brother was being married (and I was crying - ugh I hate that sappy sh*t)
Trimmer
One of my mates had "White Wedding" by Billy Idol playing as she walked down the aisle, I'd like to find something quirky like that! I was going to ask if we knew the same girl, but the one I knew used this as the first dance.... Every Breath you take - the Police I always hear that one as having slightly dark, stalky undertones, don't you think? How about Cream: Sunshine of Your Love: Its getting near dawn, When lights close their tired eyes. Ill soon be with you my love, To give you my dawn surprise....

jerbear
NIN - "Closer" And have the wedding party dress in black. Interesting... Depending if the couple has a sense of humor and they are fans, I'll add: "The Imperial March" aka the "Imperial Death March" from Star Wars.
