think i messed up!

Recommended Posts

Well ive not really had much luck with women for a while, but last night i got talking to a girl and i really liked her, i flirted with her for a bit and we danced together and kissed a little while out at a club. But then as usual i told her i thought she was really nice and messed things up. Her friend was upset and she had to go home, in my drunken state wen i got home i texted her telling her i thought she woz a nice girl and really pretty. She texted bk pretty much saying thanks and thats it. Hav i f*cked things up? i dont really kno wot to say if i txt her again, and i dont wanna look like im desperate.

cheerz everyone

But you are desperate. Not every thing is going to be the beggining of a beautiful thing. But a couple hot hours can be great in and of itself. You might not be over the last one yet also. Good luck.

Well some people are seriously put off by spelling errors. Did you spell things correctly in your text or was it filled with words like "wen," "wot," and "woz" ? I know both my friend and I would have drawn the line right there. If you can't spell "when," "what" and "was" correctly and you're older than eight years old, then she might have decided right then and there to call it quits with you.

what is everyones obsession with spelling on this site? yes i did use 'wot' 'woz' etc in my text, its called textspeak! Believe it or not my text messages are not subject to peer review, hence i doubt my spelling was a major issue.

I have news for you, textspeak isn't sexy. Oh BTW-- THAT'S Textspeak. Wot, Woz, Wen... that's just ignorance.

'I have news for you, textspeak isn't sexy. Oh BTW-- THAT'S Textspeak' I'd say thats arrogance. Personally i'd say ignorance was highlighting a completely irrelavent issue when someone has posted on a forum seeking sensible advice, not an argument.

Well originally I wasn't trying to be rude. I was, in fact, pointing out to you that some people do find misspellings a major turnoff, which I do consider to be "sensible advice." It doesn't sound like you knew this girl very well... from what I can gather you picked her up in a club. So you can't say for sure whether or not she's somebody who would be put off by what you refer to as "textspeak." But whatever. Obviously you've already made up your mind that you know her better than you think. Oh by the way, you mentioned not knowing what to say to her if you text her again.... I advise you not to text her again. If she wants to see you again, she'll text you. And if her text is comprised of "textspeak" then I think you've found your match.

 Word!

I thought only teenagers used "textspeak". Shortening words etc on text is fine but words such as "wot", "woz" and "wen" just sounds immature and low-class. oh_what_am_I_doing raises an important point - if I received a text message like that from a guy it would be an instant turn off.

Anyway, my advice is also the same - you have made your move, now just wait to see if you hear from her. For what it's worth, I don't think you made a big mistake texting her when you got home, we've all done that!

"textspeak" is appropriate for when you need to limit the amount of letters you type, cellphones would be a accurate example. But if your writing an email or posting on a message board you should try to use correct english.

Texting as the first method of contact is a turn off for one. It shows you are not confident enough to call her; first bad move. Second, textspeak is a turn off for most girls over the age of 16. Third, contacting a girl on the same night you meet her is a sign of desperation.

I met a guy at a bar several months ago, and he texted me that night with 'u r hawt' He didn't understand why I never responded... <see above>

Very true!!!! There's the biggies, like OMG, WTF, BTW, LOL, etc., and any of those would be appropriate to receive in a text. But what about shortening "was" to "woz" ... oh wait a minute, that's not any shorter than the original word.

But I'm not trying to get off track. I'm trying to simply make Dave understand something serious here that might ruin his chances with many educated girls out there. Misspellings make you look immature and uneducated. When my friend was doing the online-personals thing, she eliminated guys based upon misuse of the words "their", "there", and "they're" on their profiles. I'm sure guys have been eliminated by others for far less.

Ok i apologize for not using proper english for posting on this site, ill try my best from now on. I see where people are coming from regarding the 'woz' 'was' thing (im no gangster lol). Tbh its not neccesarily shortening the words, obvioulsy at the time i was drunk, and i tend to text as i speak, which happens to be with a regional accent. Im from the UK so this is a bigger issue than you guys i would guess. Back on track does anyone have any suggestions? I know i should just wait and see if she texts me, but its so tempting to just ask if shes going to be out again next week for example. Im just worried i already messed up and she will never contact me again. Luckily i didnt go for the 'u r hawt' approach, i just said i thought she was a nice girl and very pretty. I suppose thats slightly better?

I did not know spelling was the definitive guideline for choosing your dates :/, I don't think I would have a interest in a girl who dediceds who she is interested in based solely upon grammar.

If you choose to contact her again, call her don't text. Since you were drinking when you met, maybe suggesting a sunday afternoon date would be appropriate to make sure you didn't have the beer goggles on the first night.
