Making my move......

For the last 9 months, I've been working as a bartender/waiter in a very nice fine dining establishment.

 

At 36, and 15yrs of restaurant experience, I think it's finally time I start thinking about "making my move" to develop my career.

 

I love where I work now (most of the time), but as a privately owned restaurant, there is little advancement (though the income is pretty good for such a location).....

 

On a whim, I just sent my resume to a major national restaurant chain that is recruiting managers in my neck of the woods.

 

I have some restaurant management experience, just not in the "high volume" sector, but I'm hoping my years of service experience and knowledge of restaurant operations will help me out here.....

 

I guess it's time I grow up and think about my future, finally. :)

 

In the meantime, I'm enjoying what I do, and I'm actually slowly persuing getting back into voice-overs, something I did some time ago, and would love to do as a "side venture" :)

 

I figure, if I can keep a bar entertained with my constant (annoying lol) Family Guy voices (as well as the 20+ other impressions I've used in my years as a standup comedian), I should finally make a little money off of it. :)

 

I guess it's my own fault I have "marketable skills", but just aren't doing anything with them.

 

Time to grow up! :)

One step at time, one step at a time. First step is to think about it, second step is to put it in motion.

 

If you like the contact with customers, management is not going to give you that (from what I understand).

I think the first step is to apply! Let them reject you. :)

 

Even managers get to meet the customers to make sure they are ok with the service. It is dealing with parents, kids, and cranky customers, that make it somewhat annoying.

Managers are REQUIRED to interact with customers in high-volume restaurants (BTW, "high-volume" means Applebees, Fridays, etc...)

 

At my last "high volume" restaurant job, it was part of a "secret shopper's" duty to report if the manager was actively interacting with customers. :)

 

Managers who weren't seen interacting with customers would get written up. :)

I'd definitely hire you.
