Suboxne & Naltrexone

Recommended Posts

My boyfriend is a recovering heroin addict. He relapsed at Christmas, but then decided it wasn't worth it because myself, his friends and family wouldn't help him and he had to be homeless for a night. it seemed like that was enough to scare him into cleaning himself up. He has been going to meetings and seems to be doing really well. He went to get a Naltrexone shot about a month ago and he is due for another on Friday. 2 weeks ago I noticed his pupils were smaller than normal, and he confessed that he had taken 5 perks that his friend sold him after his meeting. I don't know if perks make you eyes small or not and he claims he got sick from taking them because of the shot. Last weekend and it seems like every other day now his pupils look fine in the morning and smaller at night. he swears he didn't take anything...but this morning i found 2 suboxne in his drawer. If he is getting the shot he shouldn't need the suboxne should he? is he doing this to get high without going and getting dope instead? I was just reading about suboxne last night and he was drinking with our friend Chris last night and it says it shouldn't be mixed with alcohol either. I am worried and I want to have some good information before I confront him for lying to me about all of this. He promised me he wouldn't lie after everything happened after xmas and I believed him. Everyone told me in October they are just going to lie and I shouldn't go out with him or to shield my heart. I really thought he would be different. At least I know that it's not because of me and that I, alone can't help him quit, he is going to have to want it himself.:(

I don't know the answers to your questions because I no nothing about those drugs that you can't read yourself on the Internet. However, I would take serious and decisive action to get him help immediate...BEFORE HE KILLS HIMSELF!!! Involve his friends and family. I don't know exactly how you should proceed but your guy needs to know you mean business.

If you can't get comfortable with all this, LEAVE HIM!!! Having an addict in your life who doesn't want to recover can create problems in your life you never imagined.

GET SERIOUS MEDICAL INTERVENTION IN THIS CASE AND DO IT TODAY!!! Call your local police and ask them how many people die in exactly these kinds of situations.

You posted another thread and I replied to it, but I'll reply here as well. From what you've described he is not taking his recovery seriously at all. Addicts should not drink alcohol. They should not pop pills - and yes, you can pop pills and get high. I used to do it all the time, and I knew quite a few people who would shoot up whatever they could get their hands on who would pop pills to get them through until they could shoot up again.

And one saying I learned in AA is very true: when do you know an addict is lying? When the open their mouth. You'll never get the truth out of him. Lying and denial are an addict's bread and butter.

He usually tries to lie to me, but as soon as he does he ends up telling me the truth, except this time. Now I know he is lying and he swore he wasn't taking anything...so now I can't trust him. So he can get high from taking pills even though he has the shot that blocks it...well I guess that is good to know. Thanks for the 411.

He may not be getting high while taking the pills, but he is obviously trying to get high. It's like a dry drunk who stops drinking but still deals with the world from an alcoholic's standpoint.

He claims the suboxne are to help him from getting high, that they help with the cravings so he won't go get high. I am so confused.

I agree with Blind,he probably is trying to get high. Suboxone, methadone are basically the same thing, but they still both are another man made opiate.(you only need the sub,and methadone once a day).

The pills/heroin are a short acting opiate, and needed more than once a day. IMO the sub,and methadone is to save money, and cut down on stealing or whatever it is someone does to keep up thier habbit. Yes both sub,and methadone both block a high from the short acting opiates,But IMO sub,and methadone have their own lil buzz, that just gives people energy.

I don't know much about the naltrexone but from what I read about it,Its just another opiate that is needed less than the sub or methadone. Its kinda like relacement therapy. No matter what if he has NO way of any ANY of these drugs in his system,h will be sick for some time(like severe flu symtom sick),and thats why an addict NEEDS opiates.(so they think).

I'm a recovering opiate addict, I have been taking Suboxone for about 3 months now. Yes, he would get sick because that shot is an opiate blocker, it prevents you from getting high and if you were to take the drug, you wouldn't feel them and on top of that you would feel like crap. Yes, any opiate will make your pupils dialate. The Suboxone he isn't abusing, they're virtually impossible to abuse they do not get you high if you're an opiate addict due to how high your tolerences are. If you dont take opiates much then you have no tolerence leading to getting high, but for herion addicts they have such a huge tolereance suboxone would be nothing. If hes just getting Nalaxone ...then hes not getting the actual opiate thats in Suboxone...I'm not sure why his Doctor would do that...maybe suggest he just get on Suboxone, it has the same injection in the pill that he gets. You can't force him to qut, just like you can't force it on any drug addict, he has to do it for himself. If you must, leave he needs o know there are consequences for his actions. :) Talk to me anytime if you need more information!!!

yeah the above statement is true. And BTW Jade 02 you are completely incorrect, suboxone is NOTHING like methadone. Please do not post about topics that you clearly have no knowledge about. Percs are the exact same thing as oxycontin(same active ingrediant) if he is a heroin addict they probly didnt do much to him. Also the naltrexone shot will anatagonize any opiate that tries to attach to any of his receptors making it impossible to get "high" from other opiates.Hope this helps.
