TMichaels
What is everyone using for there phone plans... has anyone tried the majic jack. Some say rip off some say its good i might try it though anyone else??? Sorry, but never heard of that one. What kind of calls are you making? In-state, state-to-state or international? Cell phone or land-line? How often for how long, usually? Best, TMichaels
SoStupid
Haven't tried it, Sounds like something I could use... If its international that is...
Elyssa
I like Vonage, myself. Just google it. They have great prices, particularly for certain countries you can actually call to for free. -E
Trialbyfire
If you don't mind being shackled to your computer, why not use skype? It's free and you don't need anything beyond a headset (you could use a wireless headset) and downloading their software.

Trialbyfire
No. If both are you are on skype, there's no charge. If one party is on a landline or cell phone, there are charges.

Trialbyfire
babycheeks, are you certain you're not just advertising? I'm going to assume that you're not, just in case. Why isn't your father paying for a work related line? It's an expense to his business which has tax implications. Also, if it's some form of North American business, the last thing you want to do is to jack around with cheap lines, when misunderstandings due to interference and static, can cost you far more, than the savings of a couple of dollars per month. I would separate your usage. A free service for friends and family and a better service for business.
TMichaels
You might want to check into AT&T's CallVantage or Unity Worldwide Calling option programs. Unlimited calls to the US from Canada are either free or 5 cents per minute plus a nominal monthly base fee. Quality is usually not an issue with a provider like AT&T, and it's possible to use the plan to call to/from both land-line and wireless numbers. However, keep in mind that most providers have two types of plans and service -- Residential (personal) and Business. The residential plans tend to be more reasonable. trialbyfire is right. You could run into real problems if it came to light you were using a residential service to handle business calls. Your father should be writing off his phone bills as a business expense. Co-mingling the two, isn't a good idea -- could be a real problem if he happened to be audited by the IRS. Silly to risk that just to be able to save a few dollars to call your friends. Surprised your father would go for such a plan, actually. Best, TMichaels Edited March 8, 2008 by TMichaels

TMichaels
babycheeks: icall, free to USA/Canada, 5 min limit each call but u can call back. Five minutes? Thanks for pointing that out. The icall.com website doesn't say a thing about that. Another case of "no such thing as a free lunch," I guess. Cocoa, have you checked out Brastel Phone Cards or their MyNumber service? Google them, or try brastel.net for more info. The service works with calls to/from the US as well as Canada. Don't know about call quality, but maybe you could Google to find out about that as well.
