boyfriends bad breath

My boyfriend has REALLY bad breath sometimes. and he also gets this body odor like maybe hes sweating out some really bad toxins. Its not all the time but definitely more than enough. And i dont know what to say to him about it. I keep trying to figure out whats causing it so I can suggest he doesnt do what ever it is anymore but i cant. Ive watched him brush his teeth and shower and it still happens just hours later. I think the breath thing is because he lets his mouth get too dry. He goes too long without drinking anything. I only smell it when he gets really close, and if he tries to kiss me and i smell that smell, I just kinda hold my breath and pucker my lips for one quick kiss then turn away. But i would still like to find a solutions or figure a way to tell him that wouldnt be embarrassing.

But the body odor problem, i really dont know what to say or do about that because i know he showers. and like i said its not all the time. but it is still too much.

Meds? Food?

Talk to him about it. Learned that lesson from a female friend many years ago, with whom I experienced a similar thing as you did, in her case due to dental issues (not because of poor oral hygiene).

For me, if my sinuses swell from allergies, the drainage can cause bad breath. So I always ask my wife to check. If it's not up to snuff for kissing, I head to the nether regions where there are no olfactory sensors :)

Talk to him. I'm sure he'd want to know and try things to make you more comfortable.

I think its more likely dental issues unless he smokes? I find that no matter how much smokers scrub their teeth the smell still lingers on their breath.

You just need to sit him down and let him know in the nicest kindest way you can that you have noticed a bit of a odor coming from him at times lately.

I'm sure he will appreciate it if you do it in a tasteful caring manner no one wants to smell bad after all.

When is the last time he had a medical or dental checkup? It could be any number of things. I can agree that the dry mouth can make you have horrible breath - it can also lead to gum disease which smells like a mix between swamp and raw sewage. It is a horrible smell. Even brushing your teeth, using mouthwash or using mints won't help.

In addition to the dental issues, it could be his diet. If he is ingesting large amounts of protein and not enough green vegetables, he will have bad breath and body odour.

He needs to have a doctor and dental exam. Because, you can't determine the reasoning for his hygiene. But if you try to approach him about it, put it in a joking way.

thanks guys. those are all good answers, i will try to blend all of these suggestions together to come up with a solution. Its still going to be uncomfortable though. I think the large amounts of protein could be part of it and he does smoke but nearly every guy i ever dated smokes so even though that could be a factor i dont think it is the actual cause and i agree that putting it in a joking way would be easiest or more comfortable anyway. I just have to figure out exactly how to do that.

I don't mean to be a downer, but connections have been made between enjoying your partner's natural smell and the long-term success or failure rate of the relationship. I wouldn't necessarily discount this datum as unimportant. Although it is not necessarily a meaningful problem, it is a visceral one. These are difficult to override.

Hi gal,

I think you better be honest with him about the bad breath issue. Because if even you as his closest person to him also afraid to let him know about this problem, then who else will dare to talk to him about this issue. Then he will not aware about this problem and seek for the solution.

Anyhow, for your information in worldwide, about 25% of the population will experience chronic halitosis and worldwide population is 6,602,224,175. So you can no worry and tell him not to embarrass at all.

If your bf bad breath is not that serious, you may try the following tips:

1.To check breath: Use his tongue to lick his hand and smell on the spot or he can tell by his friends expression when he talk to them very near (you may do this checking together with him)

2.Ask him to brush his teeth as regular times

3.Use mouth wash which alcohol free and contain fluoride (ex: Oral B)

4.No taking spicy food, meat, onion and the food that cause a strong smell

5.Only take sugar free chewing gum/candy

6.Drink apple cider vinegar

7.No coffee and no alcohol

If the above solution still cannot help you, then come back to me.Gd Luck :p

cheers,

you know, i read a little about this and i wondered if that could be part of it because, this is a whole other issue but we have only been in a semi- serious relationship for about 6 months now and i do have doubts for a few other different reasons about whether it will last or not.

And to simpleisland- As for other people saying something to him about it, Its not so bad that other people will notice, i mean, the smell is REALLY bad but i only notice when i get close enough to kiss him, i've known him for a couple of years and i never notice it unless we're really close to each other.

And while you're at it, buy him a ball and chain, and get yourself a whip..

i can only imagine what wonderboys reaction would be if I banned him from coffee, alcohol, onions, meat, spicy food, and started making him drink apple cider vinegar.

I think your bf case is same as mine. After I been together with my bf, and when we really close to each other, he jz found i having the bad breath problem. Previously, he also didn't notice i have such problem. But, for my case is not dat serious, therefore I can solve my problem using what I stated in my previous posted msg.

Due to I have the bad breath experience therefore I understood the situation. If you found that the step I posted in prev msg is difficult or not working, you may come to my blog and see whether it can solve ur problem.

I hope it can help you. Gd luck ;)

I understood the difficulty, therefore I am here to share what the source I found. It's a home remedy that will not get hurt, will not cost to pay for expensive dentist fees and just a simple way then can say good bye to bad breath.

Anyhow, I just wanna to share the info I found =)

That's too bad that your boyfriend smells bad.

My natural body odor after not showering for a week or longer is actually kind of sweet, seductive and erotic. You know that hippy smell? That's the one that I get. I like it. Sometimes I'll sit and smell my armpits for a couple of minutes getting off on it.

I believe there is a spiritual connection between rancorous smelling people and their attitudes on life.

My father was a terrible tyrant of a man...abusive, ignorant, cowardly, did I mention abusive? And his breath smells most of the time like the pit of hell. The raw sewage / swamp comparison is very close. I told him my ass smells better than his breath. I used to have to stick my nose out the window like a dog trying to grasp for air when riding with him.

My belief is that anyone that is that out of touch with how bad their breath or body odor is has a serious disconcern for other people and must be suffering from some serious mental disorder. My father suffers from the disease called "assholism". He recently had to go to the dentist because my mother forced him to. They found an abscessed rotten mouth and had to pull out 3 teeth. His breath got a bit better but his attitude on life and towards his son and family remain rotten. So in my opinion it is only a matter of time before his body will take on those rotten characteristics once again.

I have heard of stories of Saints whose body's smell of sweet perfumes and flowers and do not decompose as fast as average people's bodies. They could be just stories told to me by my priest...but similar claims have been made about high yogis and such.

Be honest, just tell him his breath stinks and his body odor is foul and then recommoned changing his diet and seeing a doctor. However you can word it in such a way that isn't so offensive or hurtful.

Luckily for my partner, he gets free dental visits- a bonus of being engaged to a dentist.

Nothing, I repeat nothing, replaces regular dental checkups with a dental professional, and that includes apple cider vinegar.

Natural remedies and diet changes should only be implemented if a person with bad breath has seen a dentist and a doctor and no obvious physical reasons for the bad breath can be found.

Bad breath can be a sign of some rather nasty dental diseases, and if untreated the dental bill will just get more and more expensive if the disease is allowed to progress.

Just want to share the info I know.

I had bad breath growing up. Sometimes its just the bacteria in the mouth

You have to tell him. He should appreciate it. I know I did.

Besides brushing, make sure he is flossing.

It could also be allergies, which was my problem.

Also, have him place a metal spoon in his mouth for a little bit. That helps.

Plus, get him cinnamon gum. That helps too.

A tongue scraper as well.

All the suggestions simpleisland gave were pretty much spot on.
