Recommended Posts

Found out yesterday that I can do this financially, so I made my deposit to the course in Barcelona! I'll for sure be in Spain in the beginning of January! :bunny::bunny::bunny:

Tori- I hope it goes by very quickly for you!!! Before you know it, it will be your turn! Hang in there hon! :bunny:

Thanks. It gets hard sometimes, but I'm pretty blessed with a great guy who talks me through my upsetting moments when I feel the distance is going to last forever. He is my rock.

Only a couple days for you! :bunny::bunny::bunny:

Oh and... 53 days for me.

I'm SO glad I found this message board-you all know exactly what I've been going through and that feels so good!

My bf and I have been together for almost 3 years now and we usually see each other about 4 times a week. I'm a French Language and Literature major and I'm studying abroad this semester in France. I've been okay up until now (it's right around the half-way point..) And I'm getting SO upset :( I live in an adorable harbor town and it's so romantic-I always see couples walking together watching the sun set over the ocean. I went to Paris this weekend and just kept thinking the whole time of how great it would be in my bf were there with me :'( He had planned on coming this week (i have this week off-no classes!) but his car broke down again and he is a struggling recording engineer....so that is not happening. I am doing some traveling on my own so hopefully the week will go by relatively quickly..

I've been counting down the days until we're together again since my second week here. I count down by how many more mornings I wake up here without him, because I'm usually most homesick and missing him in the morning...

So as of right now, I have 55 days left. 8 weeks (which is insane to think about because I remember when I still had 12 weeks!)

I'm trying not to get too down. It's just a temporary long distance thing....and I really do love it here! France is just beautiful! But it sucks not being able to talk to him everyday. Phone calls are SO expensive! I try using skype but the internet connection on campus is awful and all our calls get disconnected after about 50 seconds :'( But I know the next 8 weeks will go by so quickly, so I'm trying really hard to stay positive..

rochka57,

don't get me wrong, I know it feels bad when you see sth pretty and can't share it with the person you love.

BUT: Come on, you are LDR for a limited amount of time. There are ppl here who see each other only every 6 months for 2 weeks or worse. There are ppl here whose only option to be together is to immigrate for 1 side, there is so much pressure and insecurity on those types of relationships, and it takes so much energy to maintain them.

You should enjoy your time in France, a stay abroad is sth special, and you can google some providers for cheap phone calls from France to U.S., doesn't have to be via internet, is also possible from your cell.

And btw, my boyfriend lives 10,000 kilometers away, we meet every 3-6 months, and we don't have any plan how to make it work in general. So relax, some ppl really have a worse situation here.

Gratz Carvidep!! That's wonderful!!! :love::love::love::D:D:D

rochka57,

While I think it's swell that you've found us, AnnPod is correct!! I don't know a single regular soul here who wouldn't kill to be in your position. 8 weeks absolutely flies! I had the opportunity to see my SO after 5 months in the middle of this year, and I was thrilled - usually the wait is 10 months.

I've been reading lots of posts on here and have come to the conclusion that all LDRs are really difficult - whether its for a short time or a long time, whether you can see each other fairly regularly or hardly ever. When you love someone you want to be with them... so it hurts regardless when geographic distance seperates you. Of course we all must think it's largely worth it, to love the ones we do (except for those occasional dark nights of the soul when it aches so much and you wonder why on earth you do this!)
