Lishy
Hi Has anyone here ever dealt with a person with a personality disorder, specifically an attachment disorder? I have found out my ex has this and would like to hear from others who have dealt with this - I do not need links to websites guys
blair08
I can't help you, sorry. I do know its common in children, but adults can have it too and it can stem from childhood issues, like abuse and neglect. I would imagine its a hard thing to try to live with, although I'm sure it can be done with the proper counseling etc.
IpAncA
I haven't personally been in a relationship with those who have one nor will I ever but from those who have, they've told me it's tough and draining.
wareagle
Yes I have been in a relationship with someone who I think has a personality problem. She has never been diagnosed because she refuses to seek treatment for it and is in total denial. I have researched it online and she definately has several of the signs associated with borderline personality disorder. Let me tell you it is the hardest thing to be in love with someone who knows deep down that they have major issues, but won't seek treatment for it. My ex was abused by her real father when she was a child, grew up with a mom who married 5 times, was in a physical verbal abusive relationship, and she cuts herself. Believe me if you are with someone who you believe has a problem like this, and you love them, please try and get them to seek treatment or you will reap the wrath of their problems. It is no fun. Walking away
Yes, I was, up until a week ago, involved with a man with an attachment disorder. His is currently seeing a psychiatrist for his problems. (He was very, very abused in his childhood...) It was an emotional rollercoaster ride with him. He trusted me, shared with me, told me he adored me, but was never able to get too close to me. I felt sorry for him, but he was wreaking havoc in my life, and I needed to protect myself. I do miss him and hope that he will be well someday. WA
wareagle
Why is it when we are in this situation we end up feeling bad for the person who has treated us so bad? Why is it so hard to move on. I think about her every second, how she is is she healthy, is she taking care of her child? I know a personality disorder is horrible, and it really isn't that person's fault they have it, maybe that is why we feel so compelled to help them. I worry about her more than I do about myself. Author Lishy
This was how my ex was - He cuts himself and he is a bully! He cannot deal with normal everyday situations! The good news is that he is not in denial and he is recieving treatment from alot of sources. He now wants to see our son as I have recieved a solicitors letter - So now I will have to fight that! Great!
