The damage it can do over time can be fatal. Perhaps if you look at it that way, hate is a sin against the hater. Link to post Share on other sites

My first prayer for my enemy is "God, please break her pride":p (I think this is a good thing to break someone's pride) When we have hatred in us, Holy Spirit won't be comfortable with these negative feelings, He will guide you to more understanding, and warn you that focus on those negative feelings aren't good. The more you are obedient to God, the more you will be sensitive to his Holy Spirit "in quietness and in trust you will be strengthened". Many of our anxeity and fear and negative thoughts are born from lack of faith in God. Suppose we are trust in God 100% for everything, we won't worry and fret a thing. such as one person did something hurt you, if you trust in God, then you know there is a purpose here, just we cannot know what exactly the purpose is. but later you will know and appreciate even your enemy. for through them you grow into God a little more, you learn to trust in God a little more. you learn to be more like Lord a little more. your enemy meant harm, but God means good. your enemy just contribute your good future a little more. Then I started thinking about how an emotion out of our control could be considered a "sin" when we are not CHOOSING to feel that way. I'm sure that if given the choice everyone would choose to be rid of jealousy, envy, hatred, etc. I hate 1 person in this world and I have no idea how to get rid of the hatred. I have tried and tried to let it go but I just can't. I don't know if you could consider an emotion you can't control a sin, but I definitely don't think it's right or a good thing to actually hate a person. It's all about your heart attitude....do you harbor it? Do you allow it to control your feelings? Do you bother to try to find resolve? quankanne Posted June 4, 2008 Share Posted June 4, 2008 if you subscribe to the thought that sin = anything that gets in the way of your relationship with God, then yeah, hate is a sin because it defies his commandment to love him and to love one another. interestingly enough, though a believer can profess hatred harmful to relationships with others, it's really himself that's getting the bad end of the deal. Because even though you may hate someone whole-heartedly, you're not really hurting that person – he can turn you off in his mind – but you hurt yourself because of all the energy you expend on keeping the emotion alive. then there's the thought that DNR brought up: Hate the sin, love the sinner. Hate as in reject, turn away from, do not embrace said ideal, yet love the person practicing the sin. Link to post Share on other sites

In other words, there is no difference between yourself and your enemy. We were all created by God in His image. We are all equal to one another.
