Prayed for forgiveness, but felt nothing, what am I doing wrong?

Recommended Posts

Some time ago I asked God to forgive my sins and guide me to all things. But afterwards I felt nothing as a result. What am I doing wrong? Can't you speak with your mind or do you have to speak with mouth?

...What God?

Maybe the reason you're getting no reply is because....

There's nobody home....

All you're getting is the ansaphone......

As an ex-Christian of 40 years standing, I can equate.

After a while, it was like knocking my brains against the wall.

so nice when I stopped.

I'm sorry if this isn't what you "wanted to hear" but it's my view and opinion, and you did post on open forum, after all..... :o

The problem is that you aren't forgiving yourself. If you are truly sorry, then God does forgive you, but the rest is up to you to handle.

Forgive yourself? To be honest I don't understand how you can forgive yourself. You are you.

Its simple. You tell yourself that whatever you did was a mistake and that you will learn from it and do your best to not repeat that mistake.

Do we have to feel when God forgives us?

Andy,

The key is that you have to allow Christ into your heart. You will not, "feel" anything or be, "guided" by the Holy Spirit until you die unto yourself and let Him enter into your heart.

You will then be a totally new creature.

It's hard to explain in text here especially when you have non-believers shooting everything you ask down.....

Please feel free to PM me if you don't care to hear the negativity surrounding your posts.

Now is just allowing him and the Holy Spirit to take over. Just build that relationship through prayer, studying and obediance. It is so worth the work.

Okay then.

I think you have received all of the available answers to this question. It would be up to you to choose the one that you think is correct. (And I am not saying that this makes it correct).

Either there is no God, God answered but you have not heard the answer...yet, or you have not prayed rightly.

Prayer is not some mechanical tool that can be used at one's discretion.

What is Prayer? – Talking With God

What is prayer? Prayer is our direct line with heaven. Prayer is a communication process that allows us to talk to God!

http://www.allaboutprayer.org/what-is-prayer.htm

What is prayer?

Prayer is the practice of the presence of God. It is the place where pride is abandoned, hope is lifted, and supplication is made. Prayer is the place of admitting our need, of adopting humility, and claiming dependence upon God. Prayer is the needful practice of the Christian. Prayer is the exercise of faith and hope. Prayer is the privilege of touching the heart of the Father through the Son of God, Jesus our Lord.

http://www.carm.org/prayer/prayer.htm

Now this shouldn't turn into a discussion of whether God exists or not, because the assumption is made from the title that Andy has the belief that He does. However, one of the answers is...no answer came because God does not exist. I do not believe that.

I hope I didn't offend you. Did we not answer you question properly? Is there something else I can do to help?

No, you didn't affend me at all. And yes, you've answered my question properly.

Thanks for the comments anyways:laugh:

Before this thread concludes I like to ask an obvious question, if you accepted Christ and baptised but don't put as much faith in the holy spirit as you have to does that I mean I go to hell?

I already have accepted Christ into my life. I accepted Christ since 14 and baptised.

Ahh but everything you first shared with us when you came to this forum was about how your parents never allowed you the right to choose God as your personal savior. They said you HAD to go to church. What you did at 14 was likely more because they expected it out of you and you knew no other way of life than it was about feeling a connection with a higher power.

You were there when I posted those threads? That was such a long time ago:lmao:

But yeah, they like making sure that I do the right thing by them acting forceful.

I find your posts very interesting because I also grew up in a familial setting much like your own. I see you wanting to understand and that is awesome. One of the problems you are having right now is you are torn between believing what you've been told and feeling at your core that there is something more to it. And you are right, you are being sheltered from the truth. I don't proclaim to know God does not exist, but I DO KNOW the bible is full of half truths and political agendas. Get thee to a good library and start studying theology, physics, and history. Then you'll be able to wade through the illusions so many churches thrive on. It is a horrible thing because I think if you took out all the political spin and wrong interpretation, Christianity could be a great thing in your life.

I don't think anybody (with some rare exceptions perhaps) is ready to make that kind of decision at 14.

Out of interest, what were you expecting to feel as a result of pryaing for forgiveness? Liberation, joy, a warm fuzzy feeling, all of the above? Perhaps your expectations are unrealistic.

Cheers,

D.

Well, I would expect to feel cleansed and clean and a sense of forgiveness.

Well not really, I believe it's quite common. I used to have a friend (now a total pimp) who got baptised at 13.

Chears,

A.

But you don't. A person's own feelings can only come from within. That is where you should look for answers.

That kind of goes towards proving my point though.

I don't know you. I only know what you post and identify with it because of my own struggles in growing up in a fundamentalist family.

I don't believe what you are being taught anymore, but I do believe that Christianity can be a good thing if you eliminate the church and politics. It's core message is a good one. This can be said about many religions however, not just Christianity.

I withdraw my comment, above (post #2) and apologise for my tactlessness.

You would not believe the day I was having when I wrote that....:mad:

Sh*t happens.... It's a reason, but no excuse.

Sorry to all concerned who might have taken offence. It was both puerile and unnecessary.

Thank you.
