lemony fresh,

A low fat diet is good.

A no fat diet is bad. I believe your endocrine system is dependent on those fats. I try to include a variety of fats in my diet including real butter, but I try to get most of it from seeds and nuts.

Oatmeal is very good. You are better off eating the old-fashond oats because it is less processed, and it also tastes better. It contains high quality protein like soybeans but a smaller ratio. It also contains some higher-quality fats.

I think you are better off using regular sugar instead of the substitutes.

Lay off the mayo. Reduce your consumption or eliminate it entirely. It will take time, but you will eventually develop a taste for it without the mayo.

Snack on a bannana/s instead of potato chips. They are a lot more nutritious, and you should stay full longer.

Eat something with carbs immediately after a workout to help replenish your glycogen reserves (assuming you had real workout). Drink a tall glass of milk or something. If you are working out hard, you will burn yourself out if you don't replenish those reserves.

I recommend using olive oil in a cast iron pan when frying food. It will add extra iron to your diet especially when cooking with eggs.

Elliptical trainers... It may reduce the chance for an impact injury, but I don't think you are immune to overuse injuries. Make sure you are getting enough rest.

Make sure you are getting enough calories.

I weight about 185 lbs and I'm about 6'2”. I consume about 3,000 calories a day, but I’m also fairly active.

I Luv the Chariot OH

fitday.com is a really great website. It counts calories for you (both for eating and exercising). But yeah, like some other people said--food diary, good. Execise diary, also good.

Graze on healthy foods such as uncooked veggies

Why does it have to be uncooked? I know there are people who only eat raw foods - rawists - but cooked vegetables seem more healthy and easier to digest. Also raw foods have so much living bacteria that they will overpopulate your body over time. Cooking serves hygenic purposes too and a cooked brocooli is healthier than a raw one that will really overwork your digestive system to break down.

Eat less calories + exercise. When tempted by something ridiculously bad for you, remind yourself that nothing tastes as good as being fit and healthy feels.

http://www.sparkpeople.com is also a great resource to track and plan, and best of all, it's FREE.

It doesn't have to be raw but cooking does kill vitamins. When I graze, I eat raw veggies. For my large meal of the day, most often, the veggies are lightly stir-fried or grilled, retaining most of their crunch and flavour.

Cooking tends to destroy vitamins.

Bacteria should account for about 10% of your weight.

But keep in mind all the pesticides and contaminated sewage water (source of all the salominila in vegetables lately) that are sprayed onto the vegetables, in addition to all the organisms, bugs and eggs in them. Better to cook and take vitamin supplements these days.

Nearly 2 weeks ago, I ate junk every day for a week, I ate about 3 lbs of chocolate in addition to that, and I didn't work out. I didn't gain weight.

Wash the vegetable well, and wipe them with a paper towel. That should take care of most of the junk.

I think lettuce, and the other leafy greens had some serious bacteria problems. They are also harder to wash. I boil my brocolli, and eat my tomatoes and carrots raw. I also prefer to eat my apples, and banannas raw.

I guess one good alterantive is oranges, but be sure to wash it as well as your hands.

All of that modern processing and sophistication has translated into wider waistlines. I don't think pills will ever truly measure up to the real thing.

bananas, apples and oranges (fruits) have peels that can be removed where germs and pesticides can be found. You can even peel away and throw out the outer layers of lettuce, and peal potatoes. Other vegetables should be cooked, and tomatoes thoroughly washed otherwise we saw recently what could happen with those. Vegetables are so genetically engineered these days combined with chemical fertilizers and pesticides that vitamins are a much better source of vitamins without which most likely an average person regardless of their diet will be malnourished.

You have to burn approx. 3500 calories to burn a pound and if you want to keep the weight off you should aim for no more then 2 lbs a week.

correct. i think anything more than 2lbs becomes muscle tissue, so 1-2lbs a week is the best goal.

  • 2 weeks later...

the best advice i can give you is to stop thinking about it so much

if you obsess over your weight you'll be riding an emotional/image roller coaster

losing weights about changing over your lifestyle as well don't listen to all those ppl that say cut out carbs...because you need carbs to exercise and be healthier...if your body refuses to lose weight and maintain it its because your not getting enough nutrients and your body's trying to protect itself

my recommendation and what worked for me after struggling with my weight for a long time was finding something i enjoyed eating that was healthy at the same time...i was 20 and living in the college dorms at the time, but...

i ate whole grain and regular lean pockets...lean cuisine sandwhichs, 6 in low fat subway subs, salads, and whatever healthy food i could find at the dining hall (fruit, salads, chicken sandwhich, etc...) and i drank about 2-3 liters of water a day. I went to the gym 5 out of 7 days of the week for about 2 months...i also ate some bad food since i was a college student and drank some but tried to keep it to the alcohol itself being the only calories not the mixers...

i also had no scale and told myself i know i weigh about this much, but i'm going to COMPLETELY not worry about that...i'm just going to eat as healthy as i can and go to the gym...as much as possible well i lost about 20 lbs in 2 months and then 10 more pounds once i came back home for the summer and started weighing myself again...

i'm not saying it'll work for you but in my opinion when you don't weigh yourself and you don't check on your progess and you just try to become healthier as a whole you'll be alot more successful...and believe me i was very tempted to weigh myself on more than one occassion because my girl had a scale and the gym has a scale...
