of yourself? Are you all serious, moody, and introspective now? Do you suffer in your social life?

Damn I sound like a commercial. But everytime those stupid commericals come on I'm actually thinking.. uh yeah?

No, I never lost it. It's always been there. But it's gotten buried, deep inside, at various times in my life. More times than I care to count. Now I try to always keep it afloat... or at least easily within reach.

Only when I'm alone... :(

Although I probably should be more serious (as increased obligations do increase when you get out of school), I'm not. I was much more serious when I was a teen than I am now. Back then, I was very concerned with what people thought of me. Even though I wasn't exactly at the top of the social chain (I'd have been close if it was inverted), I still wanted to maintain what rep I had. After all perception was reality.

Nowadays, things are better. I don't care anymore. I'm free to be me. I do goofy, impulsive things without caring. If someone makes the mistake of declaring "I am serious", my natural reaction is to utter the follow-up line "...and don't call me Shirley". At our monthly company get-together, we had to write up name tags. So I wrote up my Inigo Montoya nametag, plus I convinced the Russian girls to write their names using the Cyrillic alphabet. :D

I get stupid and I get goofy (often concurrently), but I do have fun. The only thing that sucks is when I'm around a chick I like and I know isn't already taken. I get shy and nervous and lose all of my me-isms.

You're right, Johnny. Personally, I don't even know why I care about how others think of me in the first place. I should let myself loose every now and then. And perhaps start going out some more....

Too bad the New Years holiday has already passed, but I don't think it's too late to start resolutions, right?

I have become adept at making a great first impression.

I lose the cool side of me when I actually fall for someone- I get all weirded out and terrified by the notion of loving someone.... That is when I begin to get moody and upset.

It sounds like it's time to get out there and socialize. ;) I started into school in May and I feel like a totally different person (more like myself!). When I was just at home or work and not really interacting with other people, I felt this way (like how you described). But being around people and getting to just BE who I am has really made me remember my fun/cool side.

I heard something this past week - you are not who you think you are and you are not who someone else thinks you are... You are who you think that other person thinks you are. haha Basically, it's kind of hard to have an identity without the mirror that other people are for us.

Wow. That line probably made the most sense of everything I ever read on this site. :bunny: I'm going to remember that one

I'm on such the same boat. I'm good for about the first week. But I get nervous around closing time when you KNOW it's about to end and I'm like.. k gotta do it.. gotta do it.. tick tock tick tock..

But I'm a dude I'm the one who has to make the move!! At least you don't got to worry bout that ;P

Yes, been there done that but thankfully the fun side never really goes away...you sometimes just have to dig down deeper to find it but its there.

Same here. I get all confused about how I'm supposed to act, and all the "political" obligations that I should be doing for the relationship, that I can't be myself unless were completely alone. Totally stressful and I'm sooo not cool then, just really serious and professional put together looking.

Ruh-roh, I think I better understand something which just happened ....

I hope it's not what I think it is because I really don't want to lose a good friend.....but I guess that deserves its own thread...

On-topic, I have no problem being introspective and still having fun and enjoying lighthearted banter and humor. I think being introspective gives me the confidence to laugh at myself and my circumstance and help people better connect with that part of themselves.
