Can / Should we stand back and let people teach their children any beliefs they want just because they're religiously inspired? What if those beliefs are harmful and potentially life threatening to the child? Do we as a society have a duty to protect children from this type of abuse? Link to post Share on other sites

But the courts have stepped in numerous times when a child is involved and they won't allow the parents to make this decision. I don't even think the child could make the decision because of being pressured by their religious beliefs. I'm surprised this couple got away with what they did - unless his death happened too fast for anyone to step in. When I was older, I left the religion but it didn't occur to me until a few months later that if I had been injured as a child, my parents would've let me die, if it had been left up to them. I said this to my sister who had also left the religion and she said that our parents wouldn't have done that. I do wonder, though. The only thing that religion did for me was teach me about conditional love - you were welcome and loved as long as you followed their rules. When I left, I was an outcast. My parents were the only ones who would see me. These religions make me sick because they destroy families and they tear up people's lives. Don't get me started.... Link to post Share on other sites

She sang some really beautiful songs, was very pretty and full of life, and her accountant or manager or somebody shot her while Salena was at the peak of her career. I don't know what it had to do with religion, though, because I never heard anything about that. The woman was just a stupid, small-minded, jealous little idiot. It's Selena BTW, and when she was shot she was escorted to the hospital, and held until her father arrived who declined a blood transfusion due to the religious upheld. Dark-N-Romantic Posted August 27, 2008 Share Posted August 27, 2008 There are some people and faiths today that still reject doctors because they believe they are practicing some form of magic or rely on too much science vice faith. There are some that still believe that if you take their picture you take their soul. There are some faiths that believe certain rooms of a house need to face a certain way or that the bathroom door has to remain close so that the evil spirits cast out through our using the toilet won't escape. Many find these ideas laughable or even ridiculous. But, who are we to say they are wrong or to harass them because of their beliefs? Is it sad another person is gone form this life? I am sure to some it is. But, there is nothing in the law that says that one has to abandon one's faith to save a life. There is nothing that states that one has to go to a doctor when one is sick. These are all choices we make for ourselves and our children. We don't know what the end result will be either way. This is life, it is a crap shoot. DNR Link to post Share on other sites
