I am 24 and I have been dating my bf for 9 1/2 months now. We have talked about getting married and having children. My question is: Who would walk me down the isle at my wedding when we do get married? Both of my parents are deceased, and I don't want my only brother to as he has put me through so much hell since my father's death. I have no other living family. Would I just walk down the isle alone?

Just something that I have been wondering about.

The choice is up to you - you can have whomever you want to walk you down the isle.

Originally, this was for the father of the bride because women (wives & daughters) were considered as property and it was the father who "gave" ownership of the daughter to another man (the clergy would ask "who gives this woman?" part of the traditional ceremony)

Since no one ownes you, the choice is yours if you want to walk down the isle with someone.

or if you want to do the traditional thing, maybe your grandfather or an uncle or a male cousin or nephew would be happy to fill in as a member of the family.

My sister is 24 and has decided to walk herself down the aisle. (Our father is deceased, our brother is nutty, and she isn't very close to my mom.) In her words, "Fiance and I have been living together for 2 1/2 years. I don't think I need someone to give me away at this point." :bunny:

somebody I know asked a good friend of her groom's parents to walk her down the isle because her family was in another country. it worked quite well!
