Raindrop100
Hi my boss as a Regional Finance Manager and I am so called his right hand man. We have a Financial Controller stationed in overseas. Both of them are not hands-on persons. What happened was the FC's assistant had left and the position is vacant. My Regional FM then loaded me with work that the FC can't do as well as his own work. He always told me to give ideas and direction when I think the direction should come from him. He also always arrowed me to run the show and liaise with the FC in overseas when his job rank is actually higher than me. What he did most of the time was Intant Messaging with friends or chit-chatting with friends during working hours. Turnaround time for work we submitted to him is slow. The way he treats me is more like a Personal Assistant than a Finance Person. He would intercom me for nitty gritty things such as toilet papers, a person's name etc. (Thought he should know when he had joined the company earlier than me). I find his management style is lacking of direction and always from bottom to up. He claimed that we have to be on top of him on everything when he had joined the company earlier. What would you do if you feel overloaded and do not really admire his working style?
Desperado620
I don't know how good this advice is going to be but hey, I'll try! What I would do is finish any work that I knew was my responsibility, and do it well. Any of work that should be his responsibilty, slide to the corner of your desk and do it only when your work is done. Eventually somebody will start asking him why things aren't getting done, he'll of course blame you, but when they ask and you show them what you have been doing and he hasn't, well, they'll have to believe their own eyes. In my experience, once you start doing other people's work, they will only bring more and more of it for you to do. Nip it in the bud. Myself, I'd be job hunting. Much luck! Author Raindrop100
hi desperado, however in the job description, there is a tricky clause namely "any ad-hoc task" as assigned by superior. So, can we just push away work that doesn't fall under our core duty?
