Okay, not sure if this is in the right place. Amphetamines. ADD. Drug Screen

Recommended Posts

Alright. So a little bit about me. I've never done drugs in my life. I've never even smoked weed, though I've had the opportunity... I don't particularly care either way for it, but really I just don't like smoking.

Here's the deal. I was diagnosed with A.D.D. when i was 15, however, my mother was completely against putting me on anything so I continued as i was, and with hard work I was able to be okay... but its gotten worse in the past few years. I think a lot of it has to do with my post traumatic stress syndrome from being physically assaulted 3 years ago (and i now have a deformed finger because of it). Anyways... I never really desired or wanted a crutch, they wanted to put me on anti-depressants originally but i felt that there was a reason my brain was upset and it wasnt due to it naturally being that way, someone had hurt me and thats why. I also don't smoke, i don't drink soda or have an addiction to caffeine, and though i love beer i can honestly say I don't drink much.

Current situation. Im applying for a great job in the healthcare industry... and have been going through their two week screening process and i did something monumentally stupid. I just didnt think. At all. I know that i should probably get put on add meds but i dont have the money or insurance anymore to be prescribed them (hence me really wanting this job because of insurance), a friend of mine is on Vyvanse 30mg and we had discussed for awhile things about it... he told me it was new and also apparently wasnt addictive. I was having a hard time studying for my DAT on sunday so i decided to take it and see if perhaps it would help me focus. I have never in my life taken an ADD drug or anything else not prescribed by a doctor. It did help me focus, and when people talked to me for the first time in a long time i didnt have to force myself to stop zoning out...it was nice... but i hated the fact that a drug helped me feel "normal".

So. I have to take a drug screen today. I took the Vyvanse 30mg on Sunday at 11am. It is now Thursday at 10am. It's been 96 hours since ive taken it. I had no idea that Vyvanse was an amphetamine (stupid i know... and i was a biochem major), and that it will totally show up on my drug screen as amphetamines. Ive never had a drug test in my life (but also never needed to fear one) so Im just freaking out right now. So my question is, is it out of my system by now? I know personal body chemistry comes into play. I'm 25 with a moderately fast metabolism, I'm 5'6 and about 118lbs and i run 4 miles everyday and am pretty fit... Will i be okay today? (Please no harsh judgements... Ive already beaten myself up over it.)

Thank you for reading.

Oh and if i should post this in another forum please let me know.

Can you see your doctor and get them to write you a letter to explain why there may be amphetamines in your system?

I have a friend who is a narcoleptic who has to take them yet she doesn't fail drug tests as she has a medical condition that requires her to take amphetamines.

And BTW, not to sound harsh, but if you are a biochem major and didn't read the medicine info and not realise that what you were taking was an amphetamine while knowing you had a drug test coming up, then you should be ashamed of yourself.

You should also have a good idea of drug metabolic pathways and know more about that than you do- maybe you should study more!

I believed them when they said it was similar to ritalin, which to my knowledge is not an amphetamine. And thank you for judging me. Gracias. And you didnt answer my question at all. But while im not ashamed of myself I am disappointed in myself. Does that make you feel better? And i dont know if i need to study more, I finished my classes 2 years ago and was accepted at a top 20 medical school, so clearly, I did SOME Studying.

Are you kidding me?

Ritalin is still a stimulant, and while it focuses children who have ADD, it acts in a very similar way as amphetamines do when taken by adults, which is why it has such a high street value, and children on Ritalin have to have their school keep their meds locked away.

I don't need to answer your question, even though I could- you should be able to research it yourself and find out. You should have the resources to be able to do that.

Isn't that what having a college education is all about? Being able to ask questions and find out the answers?

Learning things by rote isn't the same as having some plain old common sense, which is also an important requirement if you want to be a doctor.

trust me on this one, I am a health professional myself.

i'm not making any judgments about you, but neither do i have sympathy.

this is a simple case of cause and effect. you're obviously an educated individual. you knew you were doing something illegal (taking another person's medication, even if it's something as innocuous as an antibiotic is a felony; akin to stealing a car). if your screen comes up positive, chalk it up to a life lesson learned, albeit the hard way.

In a urine screen, amphetamines typically are detectable for 2-5 days. That's all I know for sure...

I'd think, but I'm not a professional so take it with a grain of salt, that since you took a small dosage only once, you're probably clear.

Drink a TON of water first!

I had a drug test many years ago. In the prior 48 hours, I had injested coke, crank, valium, xanax and weed. Ah, the glory days of LA... ;)

Anyhoo - I drank a TON of water before the test.

Passed.
