nowhereman82
Curios to know if people kept their rings, traded them in, or managed to sell them. Looking for some thoughts on what to do with my engagement ring. It's suggested I just keep it cause it will sell for a fraction of what I paid.
Trialbyfire
I melted mine down and had it made into a pendant and necklace. It's symbolic to me and a reminder that I won't settle again.
Art_Critic
Okay... This isn't as bad as it will sound.. My exw had this deal where when she was mad at me she would remove her ring and keep it off her hand until I was acceptable to her again. It was a terrible childish game.. When we separated she made the comment after she saw my ring not being worn that she would work on it till I was able to wear the ring again.. She missed the point that I made by removing the ring as I wore it each day of the 5 year marriage.. I never once removed the ring during the marriage..but for some reason she thought it was going back on my hand as she had done in the marriage.. I smashed my wedding band and all the little diamond chips with a 16 pound sledge hammer till it was as flat as a piece of paper.. I then gave it to her.. She looked at it and said.. now we willl have to buy another when we get back together.. So even all my effort to make a point with the sledge hammer was lost... Sorry for the long story.. I didn't want to just post I smashed it and gave it back to her without a back story...
Author nowhereman82
Sounds like what my father did with his wedding band Art, while he was still married...ended up having to buy a replacement...they got divorced probably 5-7 years after that haha

I then gave it to her.. . I did that to my engagement ring from my first fiance. Then when I got into a huge argument with my current H about suspected cheating(turned out I was right) I threw the ring out of the car window on hwy 95 somewhere in southern Florida. Luckily he had insurance on it, but I didn't know that when it went flying out the window.
TrustInYourself
I hold my ring every night and kiss and pray to the lord jesus that my wife will realize that I miss and love her. I cherish that ring and think of her with other men and I smile.

sumdude
I asked my stbx for the rings back. After all she left me with all the debts. Took the diamond back to the broker I bought it from. He put it up on consignment, I think I got back about 75% the original cost but it did take a while to sell. Still have the bands and settings. Should have sold them when gold was way up a few months ago.
D-Lish
my bands sit in the box they came in... in a drawer. I am at a loss with what to do with them. E-bay maybe? I have been thinking of taking them in to a pawn shop- but I don't have the heart to do it....and it's been 6 years.
TrustInYourself
I'm going to throw my ring into a volcano. The ring of DOOM! ONE RING TO RULE THEM ALL! Hold me Samwise!
Author nowhereman82
Haha TYI cracks me up! Keep them coming. My stomach hurts from laughing. This site needs a positive section for jokes and other funny random stuff to distract from the dreariness. D-Lish, why not melt them down and make something from them? D-Lish
I couldn't be bothered. I dunno. I could ask a jeweller to melt it down and make a likeness of satan I guess. Where it around my neck proudly.

almost famous
Huh, how do you explain that to the insurance company "I was cheating so my wife threw the ring out the car window"
Gunny376
Back in the early Sixties, my Dad bought a set of rings and proposed. It didn't work out, and he keep them. Back then ~ No rings, ~ no pootang for a lot of couples. He used them over and over and over again with different women. I always knew where they were ~ in the glove box of his car? Right beside the condums.
LucreziaBorgia
Mine are in my jewelry box, and I will give them to my daughter when she is older. Mine doesn't fit me anymore, and H doesn't want to wear his. The marriage didn't work out the first time around, so we don't want to recycle the rings. When the time is right we'll get new and completely different ones.
porter218
Huh, how do you explain that to the insurance company "I was cheating so my wife threw the ring out the car window" Well they don't know all the details.
Lynettemck
My daughter wears my wedding ring - more because she likes it that the symbolism. No idea where my engagement ring is....didn't like it....also no idea what stbx has done with his ring.
dgiirl
Buried in the back of my closet. No clue what to do with it. I have no kids from the marriage. I was thinking about pawning it, but I'm lazy and I dont know if anyone would really buy a used wedding ring, plus I dont know how much I could make from it. If it's only $50, it's definitely not worth my time and effort. When I look at the ring now, it looks pretty darn cheap. Then I thought about donating it to charity. I dont know what to do about the wedding album either. I really wish I had burned it while I was still living in the house. It would have made a great fire in my fireplace. I already separated the pictures into three albums one of me and my family only, one of "us" and one of him and his family. I mailed him him and his family pictures but I didnt want to give him ANY pictures of us. He never asked for ANY pictures, so I dont think he deserves any of them, but I was nice enough to send him pictures of his family. I guess everything will just stay buried in the back of the closet till at least my next move.
jerbear
Not to hijack the thread. I liked the ideas of turning the old into something new. I was thinking of what to do with my grand-mother's ring. Long story behind the ring. Because of the history behind it, I was thinking of selling it but the newer diamonds are just not the same. The only thing that would come of that is a burn mark on your neck.. The demons cannot not be removed by smelting the gold... They are resilient to heat... Just for the spite, the smelted icon would poke her in the night! :lmao:
Ariadne
I had the wedding bands from my first marriage in a jewelry box. So I got married "again" with those same bands (so that my second husband didn't have to spend money on that). And then I got divorced again
base618
I got married on the edge of a cliff... then jumped off with a parachtue right after saying "I DO". I sold the engagement ring, but holding onto the wedding band so when I get back to the cliff, I can throw it as far into the desert as I can.

I took my ring put it on the street pavement, poured some water on it from a water, then took my turbo car and drove up to it to stage on it... Then I did a 5 minute burn out on that mother****er and smoked up the entire street and chipped some concrete and did a 1/4 mile pass. Left about 15k miles of tread on it... love it... I went back to check... My tire tread mark and the embedded ring in the street where cars go by everyday and run that $hit over...it is still there to this day. lolz ...to each his/her own... :-) -Shin0bi1
SingleDad
I'll probably lose my ring by accident - I have lost so much weight (35 lbs) from the turmoil and anguish of this process that my ring does not fit anymore. Today my ring finger even hurts - huh ?
