Hi!

My name's Mitra, I live in Florida, and I will be enduring a long-distance relationship starting in a few weeks.

My boyfriend and I have been together for about a year now, and he was offered a job in Virginia. I am a full-time student majoring in education, so it's really difficult for me to just drop everything and move with my boyfriend, which is what he wants.

I've been in a LDR before, and that was only with a two hour drive separating us, and that obviously did not work. I am so frightened to begin a new LDR, because the last one was so toiling on my emotions.

I'm hoping I'll get some support and ideas from this forum, but am mostly interested if anyone else is going through the same thing? (As in, been dating for a while, and now one half is moving to another city, and the other is staying put because of other tie-downs.) I am also super interested in staying as optimistic as possible about the situation we are all enduring, so any secrets are much appreciated!

Thanks, and I hope to get to know many of you and exchange thoughts and ideas [:

hello.mitra,

I was in the same position you are about a year ago. I had been dating the love of my life for only 6 months though, but we were so inlove. He left for school in NC, and I was attending college here (in VA). It was hard and it takes a lot of getting used too but after a couple weeks, you get into a routine. And a good tip for you that helped me out alot, is that there is one good thing about your situation. Even though you are apart. You can take this as the opportunity to get your life straight (get through school so you can make lots of money and so forth) and then when the two of you get back together again, all you have to concentrate on is moving you're relationship to the next level. Thats what me and my SO have done. And we've been together 1.5 years (half of that has been LD). And he has left again for yet another school year (the last 9 months of him being away.) I'd love to help you if you have any other questions. I'm new to this forum and I wish I had found this site a year ago when I was going through what you are now. But him and I are working out and I'm totally confident we will make it through.
