Why do I still feel sympathy for my ex?

After everything she did to me it still broke my heart to find out just how low she has sunk. I always knew she liked to drink and had a coke sniffing problem but A matual friend told me today that she is now strung out on heroin in Florida. I can't believe I actually feel bad for her. She has just completely thrown her life down the drain and it didn't have to be like this. Despite all her issues she is not a stupid person and if she directed her energy in another direction she could have accomplished something but she has turned into a junkie that is killing herself. I have no romantic feelings left for her but it is sad to see what she did to herself.

There is pretty much nothing you can do. Plenty of people deserve your pity, this woman is not one of them.

 

Let her go Woggle. You can do nothing to help her, even if you wanted to she probably won't accept help coming from you.

It's OK to feel badly for someone you used to love, even if they hurt you as badly as your ex did.

 

There is nothing wrong with feeling this way. But as CE said, let her go. You can't help her at this point, so deal with the concern/pity you feel right now and just leave it be.

She served her year. That happened back in 2006 and she moved to Forida shortly after she was released.

It is only human nature to have feelings for those we used to love. She was part of your life & will always be in one way or another.

 

You did what you could & she is doing what she wants & as guys we want to fix things when there is a problem & this is something you can't fix.

 

I feel that might have been a lot of my problems with my stbxw, I could see there was so much more she could be doing but she was just happy with setting on the couch and I had trouble excepting that.

 

Some people just need to hit rock bottom before they finally figure it out & your X just hasn't done that yet.

 

Be thankful you are the person you are & you are not down that type of road.

She was on coke back when we were married. It was part of what caused so many problems between us and I found some of her stash while cleaning out the house after the divorce. That doesn't suprise but heroin is a whole different animal. That stuff destroys lives and can easily kill a person if they are not careful plus it is hell trying to get off of it. I guess there is nothing I can do about it until she wants to clean her life up.
