how do you know if someone has any interest in you without being straight forward?

I'm not sure if I'm in the right place but I need some help! I've never did anything like this before so please be nice.

 

My problem is how do you know if someone has any interest in you without being straight forward and asking? Let me explain, I met this young lady about 3 years ago. The first time I seen her I was struck by her beauty. I've always been a shy person when I'm around someone I like, and around her I was no different. Being shy and not very confindent in myself I never asked her out or acted on any feelings. I always seen her out of my league. Well to make along story short I lost out, she moved on with her life as did I.

 

About amonth ago I seen her again and all the old feelings came back. She now has a baby and from what I have gathered from friends of ours is that she is alone. I don't want to make the same mistake twice, so my question is, how do you let someone know that you have these feeling for them and how do you find out what they think of you?

why dont you just ask her out for some coffee? or just make small talk and take it slow that way?
