redfathom Posted September 5, 2008 Share Posted September 5, 2008 This all started years ago. I was sitting on my couch and went to kick up my leg when I got this unbelievable pain in my stomach. I was hunched over and could not move. I also got the urge to urniate. I waddled over to the bathroom and did, which was just like getting that sharp pain all over again. I called my mom and sister and they took me to the ER where they did a pelvic exam. The pain was so bad... The doctor said he thought I had an Ovarian Cyst burst and told me to take a OTC pain reliever and rest for a few days. Now every few months I get the same pain, sometimes the pain will last for a day and sometimes as short as an hour. I went to another doctor (ER) and they didn't think I had Cysts, but could not really tell me what it was and didn't do any tests. So last night it happened again, I went to sit up and got the stabbing pain. It pain starts from between my belly button and my vagina and radiates all the way to my vagina (sorry that sounds confusing). I went pee which made it hurt less after I was done urinating, now today I am just gettling less intense pains sparsly through out the day. I am sure I will be better tomorrow. whichwayisup Posted September 5, 2008 Share Posted September 5, 2008 Go back to the hospital or see your family doctor - TELL them that you need an Ultrasound. I have had ovarian cysts and they are really painful, especially when they burst. What I do is lay down with a heating pad, take advil and try to sleep. If a cyst gets too big, they need to operate to get it out as it could do damage to your ovaries, and fallopian tube as well. Make that appointment today! But, if the pain is really bad, go to the ER and don't leave until they've given you an answer of what this might be. For all you know, it could be gallbladder stones! Author redfathom Posted September 5, 2008 Author Share Posted September 5, 2008 I had an internal ultrasound the second time I went to the ER (about three or four years ago) and they said it came back normal. But I guess having a second one would be wise, they could have missed something. Is your pain directly below your belly button, or is it a little to the left or right when it happens? whichwayisup Posted September 5, 2008 Share Posted September 5, 2008 My pain was usually on the left side. You had the Ultrasound 3-4 years ago? That's too long. Things change down there alot as we get older..I've had 3 Ultrasounds in the past 4 years because of my cysts, and now if I get alot of pain my Dr wants me to come in and he'll give me a referral sheet so I can book an appointment to get an Ultrasound since I am prone now to cysts. I am embarrassed to say that I am 26 and I have never been to see an GYNO, I have only had pelvic exams done by Family Practice doctors. Red - I used to get middleschermz. It felt like I was ovulating REALLY badly, and the pain radiated all over my pelvis. It feels like you are delivering an ectopic baby. It would last a few days. I can't remember the times of my cycle I would get it, but I do remember it was scary enough for me to get it diagnosed. It sounds to me like that's what it could be. Still, worthy of a firm diagnosis. Even with an HMO, you are entitled to a specialist referral, correct? Get one for a gyn... Link to post Share on other sites

And if so, did it hurt like heck when your muscles contracted to do this? I don't really have a family doctor anymore, but I will make an appointment for Monday. If could be a UTI also, I have noticed I get a little more warm down there and there is a smell, not a bad smell, but I didn't used to have a smell. If you're on the pill, it still could be an ovarian cyst - Though usually the pill is a cure for cysts because of the hormone level is controlled. Glad that you're calling the Dr. Also, find a family Dr so you can see the same Dr over the years, it makes a difference to have some kind of repour with the person who is seeing you in a vunerable position! It's just extreme ovarian pain. I always feel myself ovulate every month, so I am used to that 6 hours of misery, but this is that to the 10th power. It was just more scary to me at first, because I was convinced that something was bursting or bleeding or rupturing. It was intense, and scary! Good girl for calling the doc. Ask for a GYN referral, then ask them for an ultrasound (both a transabdominal AND transvaginal). Link to post Share on other sites
Author redfathom Posted September 5, 2008 Author Share Posted September 5, 2008 So I called the doctor and the appointment rep asked me if I had ever seen an GYN and I I said no so she said she would leave a message with a GYN nurse to call me and setup an appointment with them so I should get a call back today and can hopefully go in on Monday. The insurance I have (kaiser) says that if you get normal paps until you're 22 you can go in every other year, but I think I should still go in more often because of this. I just feel like I always have something wrong with me... It's super scary, I feel like something is ripping from my belly button to my vagina... at first it like I got stabbed in the stomach and then if I try to move or urinate that's when it feels like something is ripping inside me. My periods are pretty regular and light every month because of the birth control. I really hope I get some good information at the dr's this time, but I know that has to do with what i expect and making sure they meet my expectations and needs. I don't get middleschermz anymore, but I used to get it a few times a year. Once was when I was traveling, and I was so scared, I was ready to hit an ER. What I can tell you, is that I (personally) never had anything that was life-threatening nor dangerous. If your pain was constant and growing, I'd be more concerned (not that I'm not), but since it is occasional and random, it makes me think it is something more related to your hormonal fluctuations, rather than something that is chronic in nature. BUT, I'm not a doc, and if you genuinely feel THAT panicked over it, Id rather have you go to the ER pronto than wait for an appointment on MON. Link to post Share on other sites

I went in for breat lumps, he said I am too young to worry about anything serious, he aknowledged there were lumps and even said he could look into having them removed but not to worry abut cancer. I also went to him because I get migraines and the ER told me to get a MRI schedule by my doctor, he told me everything was fine, I went back and insisted on one and it turned out I have a rare brain disorder...nothing serious. I do need to start taking responsability for my health care. I just got off the phone with the nurse and I have an appt. on Monday and she told me to go do a urinary catch this weekend. She said it mostly sounds like cysts, but they won't know until Monday. Phheeewww, I am relieved. Link to post Share on other sites

She said she didn't think it was an ovarian cyst because the pain was not on the right of left side. We talked about my last Dr visit for diarrhea and constipation and she said she believes it might be related to my bowel and told me I should follow up with them. Well, I just got an e-mail follow up to my appointment and the diagnosis says: IBS and Dysuria which lists kidney stones. And it does make sense... The pain in my stomach is right around my bladder and it says it can cause nausea which I have been feeling for a few weeks. I mainly drink water, but I guess it's not enough. They did a lab test for a UTI so I will know more once that comes back. She also told me to follow up with the Gastrointestinal Dr and get a colonoscopy (which was the next thing to do after the stool samples came back normal). Link to post Share on other sites

Also a little unsure because the doctor did not tell me what is wrong, to my face or via a phone call. They posted on my web account that I have IBS (which the Gastro Dr. just diagnosed as Chronic Diharrea) and under that posted Dysuria which when clicked on took you to a link on Kidney Stones and Urninary porblems. So honestly, I am still not 100% sure, but the symptoms kind of add up. The only thing is that I never had pain in my back (near my kidney's). But looking at the anatomy of your bladder it it where I was getting the pain. I did sent an e-mail to the Gatro Dr letting her know the Gyno told me to follow up on the colonoscopy. Which I really need because all of my bowel problems have not caused me to get a hemroid (early signs of an external one). Geeesssh, I don't know what's wrong with me. It seems like one thing after another, but I have to tell myseld if could be worse. I really need to start monitoring my body more... Link to post Share on other sites

I think the biggest way they treat that these days is with anti-anxiety type meds. I guess they believe it stems from nervous system issues. And my Dad gets kidney stones, and from what I have witnessed and he has told me, you would definitely know if you were passing one. They are extremely painful! Have they also scheduled you for an ultrasound? Might be good to have a look at your kidneys to see if they are any stones building. And did they do blood work to get these diagnoses? It isn't bad, he doesn't have many symptoms, but he now needs to drink more water (which he hates doing!) and also he needs more fibre intake. Not only should you have those required tests done (colonoscopy) but also they SHOULD give you an ultrasound. I don't understand why they didn't give you one or atleast schedule one for you asap! Yup, kidney stones are awful and some say it's just as painful as child birth. I know my H did! Link to post Share on other sites
