Teh Leech!
This might be sorta off-topic, but I wasnt sure where to put it so here we go. Okay, so I'm 21, live homewith my parents, and study part-time so I have tons of free time. Time to get a job and maybe move out, right? So I sat down, went through some ads, and found a couple that interested me. Problem is I have squat to put on my CV/Resume. I failed high-school because of some motivational problems (dont ask, not your usual lazy stuff), so I have no grades. Past job experience is delivering news papers and the odd summer job. I'm totally inexperienced in this... Where do I start? I tried going to my friends about this, but it just got wierd and it became more a rant on how lazy and how much of a no-lifer I was instead of actually trying to help. Leikela
You say you study part-time... Do you mean for your GED? I think your first step would be to get your GED and then if you want to go further, go on to college. Get that GED first! You said you saw things that interested you in the ad. Well, that sort of things were those? Did they require you to have further education? I cannot stress enough how important education is for building a solid career. After you tell me what you're interested in, I'll be able to offer you further ideas on how to acheive your goals.
Teh Leech!
Hmm.. I'm afraid GED doesn't tell me much. I'm over in norway here so its possible we dont have anything like that. Anyway, as for jobs I would settle with pretty much anything. Night shift janitor, working with storage, something like that, stuff that typically dont require much qualification (I refuse to work at a gas station or mcDonalds though, I think I'd stick with being a no-lifer instead). I'm currently studying graphics at this private school, so after that I'd want to get a job at some advertising place or likewise. I've considered freelancer, but I need a little experience before that. Ideally I'd want to get into more classy stuff such as movie post-production or game development, but there isn't much if any market for that over here, so its not something I'm planning to do. Leikela
Oh, sorry. I assumed that you were in the US. My mistake. Norway, huh? Maybe someone from here is in Norway and can help you better. A GED here in the US is a chance for people who never completed High School to actually get their HS diploma. In order to build up your resume, then start from scratch. Get your HS Diploma first. Does the private school you're studying at offer certificates for your course of study? If so, that's something to put on your resume. HS Diploma and Cert. in Graphic Design. In the meantime, apply for the jobs you're interested in. Just make up a resume with what jobs you have done in the past. I didn't think moving/storage companies required a resume but then again it could be a whole different story over there in Norway. I hope I at least helped you a little bit. Just go for it with what you have now and then work up to better jobs and a meatier resume as you advance in school. Best of luck!
