Hoosier09
Hey everyone I've got a question. This summer I went to England and met the love of my life. Unfortunately, I live in America. This makes things hard when it comes to a relationship but we are making it work. We are incredibly happy together and have never felt this way before in our lives. Right now, we talk via webcam on MSN and skype and on the phone. I should probably mention that I'm 18. We've been texting each other lately while I'm in school, or just to say I'm going to be late to get online or just to suprise each other with an I Love You message. This summer, we talked on the computer anywhere from 5-15 hours a day...it seems like a lot but it goes by fast And we both weren't involved in anything. Now, I'm in school and she is still at home and we miss talking to each other and it's just nice to text a couple times a day. But I've spend 25 bucks on texts in the past 2 weeks...but I really haven't sent a lot. I've sent 50 some and received 70. It's just adding up really quick and we both can't afford it. That's less than 4 a day... Does anyone know a way to get a cheap texting plan? How can we keep in touch with something like texting? I was wondering about Blackberries..someone mentioned to me that the texts on there are emails and you don't get charged...I'm not sure if that's right though. Does anyone know what the best texting plan is or an alternative?? Or maybe I could sign up with a provider from her area and use the phone here? (Except that probably would be more expensive because of roaming charges) Any ideas will help Thanks so much
Rollercoasterr
I happen to work for a big wireless company in the U.S. The blackberry package only includes internet and email. Texting is additional, and even then you're sending them to another country, so it's going to be a bit more costy, but there are plans for international texting that will give them to you cheaper. However, if you both got blackberries there is a program called Blackberry Messenger where you could talk to her all day long on that just like an IM kind of thing and not get charged. I have 2 blackberries currently and I use Windows Messenger and e-mails to talk to my SO while I'm at work. In short, blackberries are the greatest thing ever ever invented. Author Hoosier09
This sounds like an awesome idea! How much would I pay though for a blackberry? And how much would I be paying a month? I'm assuming it would be about twice as much for her....and I don't want her to have to pay too much.
LikeCharlotte
Skype + headset & webcam - also IM. If you get a phone that has an IM capabiltiy ie: has wireless and possibly windows mobile it will help. I have a pda/phone that keeps me connected via IM wherever I am. Do you have a laptop? How often are you near your computer? Also lots of instant messengers will let you text a phone number. Honestly I love skype. I don't know if I can live without it now. I got mine there for the low low price of free. AT&T charges $30 a month for the blackberry package, and then how many ever texts you want, but if you're using BM, you wont need a texting package. Verizons blackberry plans start at $49.99. It'll probably bit a little bit more expensive for her, but it'll also save you all tons of money in the long run, and it'll help you communicate better as well. Blackberry was invented for the LDR, I'm sure of it. Or maybe it just feels that way to me.
