Not living together, she wants to control the money

Recommended Posts

I am 22 years old, and have a 9 month old son. Me and my girlfriend got an apartment, and I furnished it with everything she wanted with my tax return. Not long after, she moved back in with her mother; I did not want this. Even though she lives with her mom, she thinks she should take my check. She has never had any problem spending "my" money, even though she does not work, Should she be involved with my finances at all at this point? Everyone who s supposed to be paid are being paid at this point. My parents really like her, but think she is to involved in my finances, considering the fact that she has not made sure of payment to anyone.

not sure how you let this happen, but i am with your parents. If you live together then I see the point of pooling finance. If you don't then I cannnot for the life of me see why you are permitting this

I'm married and my wife and I both have our own bank accounts and manage our own money.

Unless you're incompetent at managing your own finances, I don't think she should have anything to do with your money.

Do NOT hand over your check to this woman. It sounds as if you're willing to give her money if she needs it, but there is absolutely NO reason for you to be throwing your money away. You might as well burn your check before cashing it.

Set your boundaries and stick to them. You're being responsible with your fiances, your gf is not.

Is your gf the mother of your son, and how long have you two been dating?

You make this sounds like a tramp is trying to pick your pocket. BUT....If your gf is caring for your son, then you definitely owe money to the gf. It's called "child support" and it applies REGARDLESS of whether or not:

* you are married

* you live together

* your relationship is intact

* you bought furniture at her request (NOTE: Anything you bought specifically for the BABY can be credited against your child support obligation.)

The child's caretaker needs that money for:

* diapers

* food

* clothing

* medical

* toys

* baby furniture

* bedding

* room space

* caretaking

* etc.

As to the proper amount, if you and the gf cannot agree, then you will need to ask a family law lawyer to help you determine the amount.

If she wants your money, she should go to court and get a child support order. Until then, keep your paycheck and help out when needed.

Now that is being a good father :rolleyes:

If the child is yours then you have to support her to the point of making sure your child is cared for..

If you don't she will go get a child support order and generally those are much higher than people realize..

It is very expensive raising a child ,it takes more than a few hundred dollars per month to raise a child so if you are not at least paying several hundred per month then you are most likely not paying enough
