RecordProducer
My mom and older sister are snobs about education. My sister has a masters degree, was third in her high school class, works as an admin. assistant (secretary) and gets collections calls at my parent's house. I am not impressed.I don't care how much money your sister makes or what's her occupation. She could not work at all, as far as I am concerned, but I could hold a better conversation with somebody like her than with the average high-school dropout. At least she can spell and has read more than three books in her life.
Author Shygirl15
First, your advanced age might deter a few guys. I'm 28 childless, want to have kids someday, but, would also like to get to know my wife before marriage for a while. Being that you'd ideally want to be done having children before the woman is 35 for biological reasons, this gives me an excuse to chase younger women. Also, less baggage. Interesting experiment would be to lie about your age, see how many are interested in you at 26? My advanced age as in 31?? While that may sound advanced to you, it's a perfect age for most guys within the age group I wish to date (37 - 47 yrs), and I have never had any problem attracting guys from that age group. Suprisingly, I still receive tons of responses from your peers even though they can clearly see from my profile that they do not fit within the age I'm looking for. I don't see why I need to experiment by lying about my age, I'm getting tons of responses as is (with baggage: divorce, a kid etc) lol.. It's overwhelming already, but thankyouverymuch for suggesting. Second, You said something along the lines of it being hard to introduce your plumber BF to your friends. Maybe you need better friends? Plumbing is actually pretty lucrative and intellectually challenging. Many days I wish I were a plumber and if I didn't have to start over I'd take it over my current accounting gig. I have set limits for myself and dating a plumber or people of the sort(intelligent or not) is simply not one of my goals in life. Define plumbing whatever you like, and I can define what a Network Engineer or an Economist does that impresses me more than a plumber. Now, these are the type of white collars jobs I'm talking about, not an Accountant.
JamesM
First, your advanced age might deter a few guys. Love it! Actually, her "advanced age" may deter the BOYS. Besides, 31 is only three more than 28. Being that you'd ideally want to be done having children before the woman is 35 for biological reasons, this gives me an excuse to chase younger women. Interesting. Many women have children up to 40 and beyond. We had our children from ages 32 until 38. Also, less baggage. Interesting experiment would be to lie about your age, see how many are interested in you at 26? Okay, so she lies. The relationship turns serious. Now she has a choice...keep lying for the rest of her life/marriage, or being honest. Is it better to be honest at the beginning? She is not after one night stands. Dude, I tell you what. I tried selling cars a little after college. My experience helped a lot with dating. One thing they taught you in training is that if you get a 10% closing ratio you can get rich. You need to be emailing ALOT more women than that. large quantities also dehumanizes them so it doesn't feel like rejection oddly enough. Uh, dude..did they tell you to check if your customer is male or female? If the customer's name is "Shygirl15," then would not this be a clue that (at least in this case) the customer is looking for men...not women? I am not impressed. Neither am I. I don't really like to think about women as used cars - though the analogy can lend itself to some pretty dirty jokes -. I just rather not do it at all if I'm just going to be playing the numbers. I'm no better off doing that than going to the local club and hit on anything that moves in order to get that 10%.
BoerumHill
First, your advanced age might deter a few guys. Being that you'd ideally want to be done having children before the woman is 35 for biological reasons, this gives me an excuse to chase younger women. Also, less baggage. I wonder if regional/cultural differences account for this line of reasoning... I live in Manhattan, where there are more single & childless women under 40/35/30/whatever than any city in the country. Done with children at 35? That's usually when folks get started around here. Might be relevant in this case since the original poster also lives in a large urban metropolitan area; chances are the demographics are somewhat similar. No offense, but I wouldn't be surprised to learn the stats on average age for marriage and childbirth are significantly lower in Minny. FWIW, they've also made a lot of advancements in testing and care for older first time moms (in part because it has become so common). Hey Shygirl15 - How many responses did that quip about the plumber elicit? I didn't count 'em up and do the math, but I'd say about 1 in 4 responses have been defending blue collar workers, extolling the education/intelligence of the underemployed, shaming you for having a preference... I get where your coming from, and I think most young white collar urban professionals feel the same way. You want to date people who get your lifestyle and understand what your typical day is like. Folks keep posting counter arguments as if it's wrong to exercise discrimination (as in the literal interpretation of making a distinction). NEWSFLASH Big dating pool; must develop selection criteria (age, education, income, single/divorced, has/wants children) in hopes of finding compatible mate. We're not building rockets here. makinitmine
I don't know what a lot of you are doing wrong with your profiles, but I set one up just kinda for fun and I have been getting only physically fit smoking hot girls as matches and to top it off I'm getting tons of matches as well. There is a few parts on the questions that asks about physical fitness and health type stuff and how important that is to you in a partner...I'm not sure if you have had those answers too low or what, but I set mine pretty high (maybe a little too high) but they all seem to be pretty fit and healthy
westernxer
Okay, so I just became a member. Received enough correspondence and had no choice... I had to find out who these women were. Will see if I get my $59.95 worth for the month. When I was registering the site said I could turn off auto-renewal under account settings, so that I don't get billed next month. Turns out there is no feature to shut it off... I have to cancel out completely or perhaps send an e-mail to customer service to have it done for me. If I forget to do this before month's end, they'll debit another $49.95 for October. Sneaky bastards!

grogster
(My son's name is James, BTW ) That same email can be sent to any other woman on this planet as it refers nothing specific to me or my profile. I mean did he even read my profile? It's all about me, me, me; I'm this, I have this, I like that. He sounds selfish and too much into himself. I don't care he likes sports or not, but I care if he took time to read my profile or not, to which he clearly didn't. The whole email is written like he was in a big hurry for something. I agree. It sounds canned. Not only does he fail to customize, he makes no attempt to talk to Shygirl. It's as if he has a bull horn and is announcing to everyone how great a catch he is. A dating site e-mail communication should not read as a condensed Profile. For best results, treat online dating site e-mails as conversations, not billboards.

Riley Freeman
why would i rely on a machine to help me find someone, when i can go out in the world and speak to them myself? i think its a good thing for disabled people who can't talk, walk or function enough to meet new people, i do think its good for that but if you arent disabled to the point where you cant get out, no matter how busy you are if you want someone i dont think you should use e-harmony
Author Shygirl15
What a waste of money. I could have bought some nice slacks for myself with $59.99. E-Harmony has the most boring people I have ever seen in the history of online dating.
